I'm below my original goal, but in a healthy BMI and weight range for my height. My husband and I both feel I am a bit too skinny, but apparently this is where my body is happy. I'm not having any issues with maintenance at this point, and all I did to get the weight loss to stop was to add more calories, and carbs. I went from 600-800 calories to 1500-1800 calories per day. Carbs were no more than 30gr per day, now I consume around 70-100gr per day depending on what I choose to eat. A lot of my carbs come from fruits and veggies, and a minimum of a white carbs, but I do eat breads, rice, Pasta, and potatoes.

I was really worried back in February and March when I was still sporadically losing a few pounds here and there. Now, I bounce between 121-125lbs on any given day. Today, I happen to weigh 123lbs, but tomorrow it'll be different.

have you noticed any changes with your voice? I am an opera singer and I am starting to get more job offers. After 20 years of study, I am nervous about the effects of the surgery vocally. My surgeon has never operated on a singer. If you know of one who has can you give me their contact information?

I have not had any voice changes. People that haven't seen me in months mainly recognize me by voice. I look completely different than I did just 8-9 months ago, and people always say "I only recognized you when you started talking". I have a very heavy "Texan" southern accent, and nothing about my voice has changed.

If I see anyone else posting that happen to be singers, I'll send you links to their profiles/posts so you can connect with them.

The lead singer of Heart, Ann Wilson had the lap-band in 2002. I'm a huge fan, been to over 100 shows, her voice is just as good as it ever was.

I have read several articles about Deborah Voight. She is one of the most famous opera singers in the world. She had a gastric bypass. I do not know her personally hehaha so asking her how it went is probably out of the question. If you know of anyone local I would appreciate the info. :biggrin0:

Why not? Its always worth asking... even if you hear nothing you'll know you tried. You may find she is full of info for you.....

Good luck!

I sing in a band and the only thing I have noticed is my mouth getting

dry while I am singing, more than prior to surgery. I just make sure I have

Water available for a quick drink if I need it. It was real bad the first two

months but seems to be getting better now, but I still keep the Water near

by just in case.

Good luck,

Gary

I sing, not opera, but I haven't noticed any difference except you need to wait for the muscles to heal before you can use your diaphragm without the incisions hurting. I'm two weeks out and it's really not a problem, and I will be back singing in the chamber chorale within the month. I wouldn't worry about it. The anesthesia doesn't affect your voice, although some people get a temporary sore throat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
