How much Protein and stuff should I be consuming in one day? I had my surgery May 21st, and thats one thing I wasnt told.. How many calories, fat, protein and what not... Plus anyone found anything out there other then TUMS that work on heart burn? I CONSTANTLY have it day and night... No matter what I eat or drink.... Starts in the back of my throat and goes all the way down...

My guidelines were 60grams of Protein, 64ounces of Clear liquids per day, 600-800 calories, no more than 30gr of carbs, and I didn't have fat intake guidelines.

The first couple of weeks my surgeon was more concerned about hydration than Protein intake the first couple of weeks. I didn't get my full protein in until I got to mushies.

Prilosec and Prevacid are both over the counter acid reflux meds. The Calcium carbonate in Tums, Rolaids, Pepcid Complete can actually cause your acid to be worse. I take 20mg Prilosec once daily first thing in the morning, and wait 1 hour to eat anything.

If your program has a nutritionist, you may want to give them a call. There are tons of guidelines out there, and your surgeon or nutritionist should be able to help you.

I wasn't given a strict numeric guideline either, but will use the sample menus given from my dietician and combine them with info on here.

I have realised the most important thing is fluids - and have told my hubby to have a go at me every time he sees me without a drink attached to me in some way! LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
