Help! made a big mistake 12 days in!!

Recommended Posts

;) Hello every, I have made a stupid mistake - I am 12 days in and meant to be on liquids for three week but for some reason as the kids were snacking I picked up some food and ate it (chocolate Mars Bar of all things). Don't know why - I didn't even realise that I had done it until some time later. I am paranoid now that the band will slip. Has anyone else ever made the same mistake and the band not have slipped?

I eagerly await a response.

Barkley from Australia

Banded 22 May 2006.

I doubt you slipped your band.

Typically the post op liquids are to give the stomach a "rest" after the trauma of surgery, and band placement.

Anyway - chocolate is one of those things that tend to go straight through the band :kiss You should be ok, but I wouldnt try another mars bar again (or anything solid) till you get your doctors ok!

Good luck.

Don't do that ANYMORE!!!

Did it hurt? Did you bring it back up? If you didn't realize until way later then you probably didn't hurt anything. If it had caught against the band you'd know it. Luckily you are unfilled and not too swollen if you can get nuts down. Are there nuts in a Mars? Now if you had inadvertently scarfed a mouthful of melted cheese the story would be different.

The reason for the liquid diet is to let everything heal slow like... everything solid-ish makes the stomach churn. The more the stomach churns during healing, the higher the chance of popping or loosening a stitch. Healthy scar tissue makes for a stationary band.

Most of the stuff we should avoid the most will slip right through with no issues. chocolate, ice cream, and chips will slide right through (which is why I try to keep them out of the house).

Chew ice and sip fluids. If there is something in your hand all the time it is harder to forget.

Heal well, Brenda

No, not in Aussie Mars bars. Just good old chocolate, caramel sauce stuff, and more chcolate.

It can be painful, or painless.

Sometimes the only symptom can be loss of restriction (or super restriction, and being unable to keep anything down)

There are a few threads on the board regarding slips, if you use the search function, you should be able to find a few with some good info.

But do try not to stress yourself out reading it. It is most unlikely that you have slipped. But in the event that you do start having symptoms that are outside the "norm" for you, phone your doctor.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
