Almost 6 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I am almost 6 weeks post op - this Tuesday will be the magic day. I was soooo looking forward to my appt with my dr...I was down another 3 lbs this morning after going thru quite a lengthy stall (finally stopped weighing every day and just once a week now) but now I have to reschedule due to a work conflict and won't make it in until early July. Very frustrating as I was really excited about going to see my surgeon again. Wanted to ask him what size bougie? he used...I didn't have that information when I had the surgery. Not that it much matters I guess since I am loosing weight but just curious, ya know? Anyway, since I've got to wait another 4 weeks for an appt, what am I missing at the 6 week visit. If I know, it might make me feel better. Thanks!!!

I asked Dr. Nick in my pre-op appointment and he said he uses a 36fr boughie and he made it sound like that was what he used on everybody. Hope that helps! I was sleeved this last Tuesday (June 1st) and I'm feeling pretty good, just real sore and ready to eat something semi-solid! My scale at home doesn't work but I still feel bloated and swollen so I'm not sure it would say what I would like it to say anyways. I'm just waiting for my first week post-op to see how much I've lost!

I was sleeved by Dr. Nick on May 25th. I didn't weigh for a week, but when I did, yeah! I am down 30 pounds since I started the Pre opt diet. It is absolutely amazing. I am finally getting the 60g of Protein needed plus I am eating applesauce, mashed potatoes, and cream Soups. I can't wait for some crunchy stuff, but it will be awhile. It will be very interesting when I get back to work on Monday. Any tips on getting back to the grind while still on the semi mushy stage? By the way, don't you just love Dr. Nick and his staff? They are awesome!

Yes, Dr. Nick and his folks are the absolute best. I am extremely happy with my results. lk 1069, I also live in Garland...thanks for the info on the boughie. I was quite sore for the first week or so. It kept getting better and better thou...I couldn't wait to get that drain out. That most definitely felt great!! Keep on sipping to get in your liquids and walk, walk, walk...I walked around the neighborhood several times a day. I know that it was a great benefit in my recovery.

Lavonwarrier, Cream Soup definitely helped me through the early stages. I very much enjoyed guacomole and chicken salad did nicely as well. Canned chicken with a little mayo and some seasoning goes down easy. Do you like grits? Those are very good. I especially like them with a soft cooked egg on top. In fact, that was what I had for Breakfast today. I made sure I got plenty of liquids and added Protein powder to my Protein shakes and also got some fruit flavored liquid Protein that I diluted with crystal light to make sure I got all my Protein in. It worked quite nicely.

Best of Luck to both of you. Maybe we'll bump into each other sometime!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
