Quick question on PPI after surgery

Recommended Posts

I currently take a PPI (Prilosec OTC). I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday June 8 and my doc wants me to continue after surgery. How are you all doing with taking a pill after surgery? I just want to make sure that if I take it, it won't get "stuck" on the way down -or- if I should try and find a liquid version.

I was able to swallow the normal pill form beginning day 3 with no issues. If your swelling is different then this could change for you--but I would take it right when I woke up so it was the only thing I had. Then after getting showered, dressed etc I would eat (or drink) Breakfast.< /span>

I could take small pills at day 3 also. I felt it going down... but I could get it. I think some that have had more swelling have broken broken open the capsul or crushed the pill and taken it in a liquid form.

After surgery Dr. Aceves had me take Nexium mups which dissolve in Water for 3 months. Then I could move on to pills. He said he just rec this to everyone even though some might be able to tolerate pills sooner, just for precaution.

I have been taking pepcid tabs since day 3 also. I crush my Calcium still. I can swallow them but it feels a little strange. I used chewable vits till last week. Now I take regular one a day vits without problem. I do 1000mg of B-12 every sunday. Those are sublingual. You have to do what feels good. Your new hot dog size stomach will let you know.
