I'm ready to buy a new exercise video and I'd like your opinions!

I'm looking for something that is for beginner's. I'm a little worried about over doing it on my knees until I lose some more weight, and I have to build up some strength before I try to do push ups!

I tried to post a poll, but I didn't know how it worked and it is not going to work right (but I can't figure out how to take it off the thread), so please ignore my efforts at that.

I'm in total agreement with Mesha and highly recommend the Leslie Sansone's "Walk Away The Pounds" series. I love her simple walking workouts that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Sometimes I don't even put on my tenniss shoes and do it! It's so simple and you can really go at your own pace and the work out you get is amazing. Once you get good at it I suggest turning the volume down and cranking up your own tunes for some added fun. You'll be amazed at how well you'll progress from her 1 mile to even her 3 mile workout. Try it you'll love it!

I have horrible knees. Osteoarthritis, and meniscus removed, ACL replaced and repaired twice. I use the hip hop abs, and I just got the "flirty girl fitness" DVDs. They both offer modified instructors that you can follow. The Hip hop abs is a lot of core and ab training with cardio tossed in. If you don't like pop music, then you turn down the volume and use your own music.

I used hip hop abs at 270lbs, and dropped 40-50lbs with that and dietary changes.

The flirty girl fitness dvds are a little "stripperesque", but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the dancing, and toning.

Just my 2cents, the walking dvds never hold my attention, and the become dust collectors. I tried to like them, but they just aren't for my personality type.

I am totally intrigued by Hip Hop abs and some day want to take a Zumba class. Right now I have flip flop abs, and can only exercise for a little bit before I am sucking wind lol. Tiffy, I hear you on the knees, I had to have a total knee replacement because of arthritis when I was 40  all the more incentive to get this done and the weight off!

Kathy, your flip flop abs have me laughing :) I personally enjoy Kathy Smith's cardio kickboxing DVD, and I have a Pick your Spot Pilates DVD with Ellen Barrett that makes my body feel amazing and strong. Plus, Pilates is very easy on the joints and no-impact. I also have bad knees and ankles and do whatever I have to to protect my joints.

I got a box set of Zumba DVDs for after surgery. I looked at them and they look like fun, though I will definitely be starting with the "Beginner" DVD.

Does anyone know where you can get exercise DVD's for a good price? I am not particular just cheap!

Ebay.com

I got a brand new set of the Hip Hop Abs for 20 bucks, and free shipping. They arrived in 3 days.

I always, always check ebay and Amazon before buying any dvds.

Although I am really into my Pilates reformer machine (can't wait to get cleared to use that again), one of my favorite video sets is the "Firm" workout series. They have a lot of different videos to target various areas. I have done some serious toning with these videos in the past when I stuck with them. Some of the older ones are a little cheesy but they get the job done.

I also buy my dvd's from Amazon. The outside sellers have used and surplus stock that is much cheaper than regular price. It's a good way to try out different workouts.

I have started Jillian's 30 day Shred dvd which I bought at Target for $10. It has 3 levels and yes level 1 is unbelievably hard for me but I feel great when it is over! The thing I like about this DVD is that Jillian has someone doing modifications for almost every exercise so its for all levels. It's a combination of Cardio, Abs, and Strength.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
