rose-rn 0 Posted June 4, 2010 Hi, I am Rose and am new to your site. I had VSG on 4/26/10 performed by Dr. David Treen at WJMC. I am a nurse on an ICU stepdown unit at another hospital and my weight has taken it's toll on my knees. I had a right knee replacement 2 years ago and my left knee needs to be replaced. I am hoping that loosing my weight will prolong the inivitable. It had taken me over a year to get approval from Gilsbar Insurance. I have no co-morbidities other than bad joints, arthritis and being fat. After consulting with Dr. Treens assistant Karen, she recommended that I have a sleep study test, which I failed. Didn't know that I had apnea. But it bought my ticket to my sleeve. I then had to wait 6 months for Gilsbar to get online with covering the sleeve. That was done on March 31. I had my surgery 3 weeks later. I am almost 6 weeks post-op and have lost 33 lbs. I still struggle like most with Protein and fluids. But it is getting better. I am looking forward to goal. Dr. Treen is very obtimistic and thinks that I can get down to 145 lbs. (I weighed that when I got married 29 years ago) We'll see how that goes. I think that his timing is a little ambitious as he thinks that I can do this by December. This would mean that I would have to loose 140 lbs in 8 months.:drool5: WOW. Well I am glad to be on your sleeve talk. Hopefully I can find some others who had surgery with Dr. Treen and could possibly get together for support. So. Hello fellow sleevers, glad to be on the loosing side with you.:001_tt2:
a.walker 2 Posted June 4, 2010 I'm a nurse as well, so I understand the wear and tear you are talking about. I am scheduled to have the surgery in July, but I just wanted to say congratulations on having it done, and I hope you reach your goal!
goodlife 3 Posted June 4, 2010 Well hi there Rose...welcome to the boards. We're neighbors. I live in Mandeville. I had surgery 2 days after you on the 28th. You're doing great with your loss. I'm only at 22 lbs since surgery. I hope you stick around...there are several of us who had surgery around the same time. We're all in this together!
