Could this be a new wierd side effect?

Recommended Posts

I have noticed since surgery that I get cold more often. I mean freezing cold and my house is the same temp setting as before surgery. I also notice that I can't tolerate heat. I live in Florida and needless to say, when I had to walk post op it was hard because of the heat. It makes me feel horrible.

Did anyone else experience this?

:)

I'm alot colder than I used to be. I attribute it to my body being low on fuel. I haven't been hot yet....mybe your body just doesn't want to expend the energy to regulate your temperature

Yes, and it only gets worse. I'm constantly freezing, and I live in Florida as well.

My thermostat is on A/C, but it's set at 77. In the winter, it was set at 72. For the first time in my adult life, my electric bill was higher in the winter than in the spring ha ha ha. We live over near Pensacola so it's humid, and icky here since we're right on the Water.

My niece and sister lives in Pensacola... well Milton. I lived there for a year. I think the biggest difference between Jacksonville and Pensacola is that there was at least a little breeze in Pensacola because the gulf was right there. Jax just has the ocean and rivers everywhere so you feel like your in mud all the time. But the cold feeling.. I have only lost 20 something pounds and I freeeze now.

my girlfriend had this surgery almost two years ago and just yesterday told me she is ALWAYS FREEZING. Nothing about being hot though.

This body temp shift is apparently common in people who have lost large amounts of weight, regardless of method. I read a memoir of a woman who lost a massive amount of weight through diet and she commented that all of the women in her support group including herself were always freezing. I guess the body gets used to having 100+ lbs of insulation and it takes time to readjust. I'm looking forward to it, I'll get to wear layers for the first time and won't break into a sweat if the room temp is more than sub-zero! =)

Angie, I too get cold quicker and I live in the deep south also. BTW I had my surgery in Milton Florida at Santa Rosa Medical Center by Dr Althar. He was great.

I'm constantly cold. When I lost weight other times before I had surgery, I don't remember feeling the cold - but now, I'm still sleeping with two duvets on the bed! xx

I have been feeling cold since immediately after my sleeve surgery. I bring a sweater or lt. jacket with me when I go somewhere w/air conditioning. I used to swim in fairly cold Water (LI Sound) and in the ocean beaches too. This year I wonder if I will be able to adapt to the cold water as well.

I am down about 50 pounds an ALWAYS cold. At night I sleep with 2 blankets. I also live in Florida - Jupiter. Our a/c is at the same temp prior to surgery.. I attribute it to the fact that I'm not eating many carbs. Carbs are energy and energy is heat. No carbs.. no heat. My husband is loving it. Prior to surgery, I was always hot and fighting him with the a/c temps! :-)

I've been cold since I started the pre-op diet, and I used to be hot all the time. I think that the body's metabolism slows down drastically when we consume such low caloric diets, as a way to protect itself. Also, a lot of the high carbohydrate foods we used to eat cause an inflammatory process, which I believe elevates body temperature.

I am much happier being cold that I was being hot all the time.

Many sleevers report this chilling effect so you are not alone.

I was very cold for a couple of weeks post-op .. I mean layered clothing, socks and slippers .. and it was fairly nice here in Vancouver. I know it was related to the surgery and I am feeling not as cold but definitely cooler than I am used to.

drastic reduction in calorie intake causes your body to go into starvation mode, your metabolism lowers and your body temperature does as well. Your body's way of conserving energy is to lower your core temperature. As long as calories are very low, or carbs, you will be very cold. If you can shift your body out of starvation mode, by getting the calories to a healthy weight loss level, your metabolism will rise and so will your body temperature.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
