The next upper endoscopy I get, (hopefully soon due to "silent" reflux issues), I'm going to ask beforehand for pictures. My bougie is a 40f and at 9 months out I've got tremendous restriction! I am about 15lbs from goal and need to exercise more. In hindsight, I would not have wanted a smaller bougie size, no way.

Lee and Katt - I can identify with both of you - I lost my Mother last year to Alzheimers.

The tragic illness took her from us years before she was actually gone. My only saving grace is that I was adopted, but with a sister and brothers not adopted and older than me I understand your concerns.

I think the live your life motto is the best one.... no one knows what will happen tomorrow....so you make your decisions based on the information you have and hope for the best.

Good luck

Great post Katt. I don't have the pouch at the bottom either. Every surgeon has a little different technique, and I know that through my reading that some surgeons stay closer to the pylorus when stapling off, and others give more space.

The difference between a 32fr and 40fr is a mere 2.3mm. And, our own anatomy and specific surgeon technique plays a bigger role in sleeve capacity once the swelling has decreased.

I can consume double the portion sizes that I could at 2-3 months post op. But, I am eating the same quantities per meal that I did at 6 months. My surgeon believes my sleeve is at maximum capacity for life. I can now chug water/fluids, I no longer have to chew, chew, chew everything to mush. I still chew well, and eat slowly, but nothing like the immediate months following surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
