How many calories is normal for protein?

Recommended Posts

If I found a shot with 50gr Protein in 4 oz but it has 230 calories. Im only planning on using it for the first 10 days (clear liquid phase of post op) so do you guys think it an acceptable amount of calories for that many grams of Proteins?

Also is there any truth to the notion that the body only can absorb 30gr at a time?

Im thinking that Isopure has 15gr Protein and 60 calories. So to get my protein in I would need to drink atleast 4 of these then the calories would be 240 so there's no difference right?

Thanks!

The Premier Protein drinks I drink in the morning are 160 cals and 30 g of Protein. That's 5.33 calories per gram of protein. Your drink is 4.6 calories per gram of protein -- even better!

As long as you can stomach it all and it's not crazy in some other way (super high sugar or sodium or whatever), it sounds good.

And no, the 30 gr of protein at a time thing is an urban legend. It's a persistent one!

I agree 100% with the above post from ouroborous. The ASMBS even states that there is absolutely zero scientific evidence to prove the 30gr of Protein myth.

The key to Protein assimilation and absorption is to ensure that we are getting the proper amount of amino acids necessary to break down the protein for maximum digestion.

Most of those shots are collagen protein which isn't the best form of protein source, but my nut told me some protein is better than none. I personally used them early out with the band, but could not stomach them with the sleeve. Instant hurl fest. Plus, they are super sweet tart like and tasted super rough post-sleeve.

It's rumored that this ingredient

(Connective Tissue And Cartliage Repair Matrix (Low Molecular Weight Hydrolyzed collagen Isolate
is a product of boiled cow hides and various other glue like parts. Now I have zero published info to back that up, that's why I said rumored.

Like I said, I used them, but they are nutritionally not the best option.

From a nutritional point of view, collagen and Gelatin are a poor-quality sole source of Protein since they do not contain all the essential amino acids in the proportions that the human body requires—they are not 'complete Proteins' (as defined by food science, not that they are partially structured). Manufacturers of collagen-based dietary supplements claim that their products can improve skin and fingernail quality as well as joint health. However, mainstream scientific research has not shown strong evidence to support these claims. Individuals with problems in these areas are more likely to be suffering from some other underlying condition (such as normal aging, dry skin, arthritis etc.) rather than just a Protein deficiency.

But, with the whey isolate and concentrate in there, you'll be getting some of the better quality of protein.

They are pretty thick and sticky, kind of like cough Syrup in consistency.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
