DR Veninga- Any TX company out there?

Recommended Posts

:biggrin0::001_tongue:Well, after going back and forth with the decision to go with DS or Sleeve. Finally decided on sleeve. Plus dealing with getting around insurance coding (didn't happen). I am having my sleeve surgery next Thursday!! I am out of Atlanta, cheapest self pay was $17K, so I am going to Dallas. Scheduled with Dr. Veninga. I have had phone consult and have been pleased, but not so much about him on the boards. Nothing negative though. Sleeve count is not up there with the others but I did feel assured. Any thoughts welcome on previous postings for him. The only thing is that they will not release me by myself after the surgery.. I stay 1 night then I will go to hotel for a couple of nights for post op befor flying home. I had planned on just going myself. It is what I did when I had the lap band in MEX. I have no problem traveling by myself. Hubby cannot afford to miss work and mom has a previously planned vacation already booked, so not sure How to handle this. Apparently they can release me to anyone, just not to myself. IDEAS? I cannot wait to have this done. I am so excited. Since I have had the band before, I know what it is like to have all of this weight off!! I will be in Dallas this sunday night. Surgery not until Thursday. Anybody to have a drink or chat with?

You can contact members i1Linda, Avilda, TexasT, TxSam, HappyDestiny, and Zephra.

Those are the ones I can think of and there may be more in this thread.

If I was back home in Bedford, I'd definitely be there for you. I hope you can find someone to help you out. The Dallas group I met with at the first of April are a fabulous group of ladies.

Best wishes on your surgery, and keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Jennymac - I don't live there...or I'd be happy to help you out and take you to your hotel. I'm not sure, but if you get a hotel (and also ask your doctor about close hotels that will give medical rates) that is close to the hospital and one that deals with patients and visitors, you might get a shuttle. If you haven't booked a room yet, ask! Just an idea!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
