marys 2 Posted June 1, 2006 This is the first time i think in my life that i ate less then a cup of ben and jerrys ice cream - in fact, i've always eaten the entire pint and wanted more.. it's still in the freezer and I DON'T EVEN WANT IT TODAY. AM I SICK - i've had this band 6 months and that seems to be the magic number - so much is changing with my eating habits - i admit it though, I didn't think the band was going to work for me but the ice cream is just one of about 5 new behaviours that seem to be sticking/replacing old habits. I really wanted the band to help me become 'a normal eater' and maybe it's working. p.s a normal eater to me is one who eats when hungry, stops when full, etc.
niche 0 Posted June 1, 2006 i'm still not there on the icecream front. it's not so much that i will eat a whole pint anymore (don't get me wrong, that's good!) but i will eat 1/3 of a pint every day for 3 days. so the calories still take me over the daily limit and stall my weightloss. so to the icecream! dawg 0 Posted June 1, 2006 Ice Cream is one of mankind's worst food inventions. I used to like it, but I found that it would make me shaky and edgy if I ate a lot of it. My body doesn't cope well with mass amounts of sugar. I suspect after abstaining from the majority of sugars (accept canned fruit), a full pint of ice cream would but me in the ER. Good luck on getting past the ice cream demon. May your portion size ever decrease
niki 1 Posted June 2, 2006 It must be amazing to make such a discovery! I LOVE ice cream, always did, but I still have to fight that demon pretty hard as i don't think I would be able to start eating it and then stop, I would go all the way till the end, the whole pint... and afterwards would feel lousy and guilty... :cry niki
legallyKristin 0 Posted June 2, 2006 Good for you for becoming "a normal eater!" Ice cream is a demon, and it goes down so easy sometimes when nothing else will. About a month after surgery we bought some of the sugar free crap, but it just wasn't the same. So now, the demons stay at the store! Kristin
Josette 2 Posted June 2, 2006 I love the Edy's no fat sugar free vanilla chocolate swirl ice cream. that stuff is soooooooo good! made with splenda! (if the "splenda will kill you" people come out of the woodwork I am outta here...hehe) I eat two small scoops!
fiveholts714 0 Posted June 3, 2006 Man, getting over the head hunger and stopping before you eat the while pint is a HUGE victory that you will see helping you in other parts of your life as well. You are strong!
missnikki 0 Posted June 5, 2006 I really never ate ice cream alot in the summer, I always craved it in the winter time but yesterday I tried Blue Bell's sugar free Great Divide (Chocolate/Vanilla) and it was actually good.
NewSho 20 Posted June 5, 2006 I can beat that... Yesterday I went to a local premium Ice Cream shop with two friends. They didn't have any yogurt or sorbet - so I just bought a bottle of Water. My two pals each had a large ice cream cup and they enjoyed it. But I wasn't even tempted, didn't even want a taste. Now granted, I don't like ice cream - I prefer sorbet (yum!) or even frozen yogurt but ice cream (or even milk) is not what I like. But still, it's interesting that now that I'm banded I am able to turn down things that I don't want. It's a huge life chance: because previously before banding, I would find myself eating/snacking/picking over something whether I really wanted it or not. Now, I rarely, if ever find myself doing that. I guess that's a type of Non scale Victory. Happy Band (And Life) Journeys To All...
