First try of FULL liquids

Recommended Posts

Well tonight I had my first stage of Full liquids. I made mashed potatoes (soupy). They were so good because I was starting to feel hungry. The only thing that has me concerned is that I ate 4 ozs of them before I was full. It seemed like alot for me post op. What do you guys think?

Angie, i had baby food last night (the turkey with gravy) and had to eat 2 little jars to feel anything in my stomach. Each was 2.5 oz, so 5 oz total. Then i felt comfortably full for a while. I don't think you had too much, in my opinion. If it didn't cause discomfort, pain, or nausea, you were probably okay. 4 oz is a very small amount!

Its pretty normal to be able to get in a lot of runny stuff. Its fine at first because the idea is just to get something.... anything in you. Thats why once on solids we have to avoide sliders and mushies.... stick with lean meats and veggies and fruits.... in that order. For now its fine.... give your body what it needs to heal. You'll have plenty of restriction when you hit solids.

I have moved on to the full liquid phase too. I certainly try the potato Soup for tomorrow. How did you make it?

I heated the can of potatoe soup... lol... No seriously I heated it up but I cooked it on low for about 20 minutes to make sure that the pieces of potatoe were soft, then I ate those pieces slow while eating the Soup.

Angie, i made a batch of sugar free pudding today, with 2 cups of skim milk, and was able to eat the whole batch within an hour. This i should not have been able to do. I will have to start using self control so i dont eat so much. But i am very surprised that 2 weeks post-op i am able to eat this much. I'm sure that solids i wont be able to eat nearly as much. So don't feel bad at all for eating 4-5 oz!!! lol!!

Angie,

Remember that your stomach nerves have just been severed and you may not be able to feel the signals your body is giving. I would still measure your food and stick with the amounts recommend by your surgeon and NUT. Mushies was by far my least favorite phase, but you'll really be through it in no time!

Great, I am so glad that I got sleeved. I still struggle with eating too fast but I just love that I can have anything, just not much of it. It is so perfect for someone like me. I just ordered Zumba because I quit getting on my treadmill so I am hoping that this will be fun and I will do it! I am so glad you are doing so well, I LOVE losing weight!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
