Ok, so yesterday was officially 2 weeks and I want to tell all you newbies and lurkers how much of an impact this surgery can have for you. I have lost 23 pounds and am eating about 800 calories a day. The week before I had this surgery the hunger I felt never seemed to go away. What I mean is that I would eat and within a very short time I would be hungry again. NOW, my hunger is different. I do get hungry but it doesnt feel the same and when i go to eat, NO JOKE the smallest amount fills me so comfortably it is A FREAKING MIRACLE.

For the last five years I have lived with the band and felt like a complete failure for being so hungry when a tool was in place. Well I CAN TELL YOU that the band is not for anyone who has more then 40lbs to lose. And even then if you make bad choices you are going to waste your money. With in the two weeks of healing time my ankles are no longer swollen (I can see both malleoluses or ankle bones) my back no longer hurts, I am falling out of my jeans which I keep washing and drying to shrink. I feel amazing and more then anything else that nagging hunger is gone Gone GONEEEEEEEEEEE. When I do get hungry I am satiated by the smallest amount and that feels so good although I am starting to get impatient waiting for my ahole bf to finish eating. I went to this fish place yesterday and normally I could eat about 30 clams and some Soup and bread. I ate 3/4 of a crab cake the size of a half dollar, one clam and I was DONE. But I didnt feel that normal OMG I AM BURSTING, it was a comfortable feeling of ok, I think I feel full and its a good time to stop. That to me is a success in its self, because I was a notorious over eater and wouldnt stop till i practically wanted to puke.

Anyways, I hope for those who are lurking, you dont wait to long, as I wish I did this instead of the band five years ago.

To all of you who have been supportive, thanks I really appreciate it.

RACHEL:thumbup1:

My sister got a lapband last year, even before I started considering surgery. I considered a "sleeve" a part of my clothing. She has lost alot of weight. Now that I hear about all the lapband problems I feel like she's a ticking timebomb :thumbup1:

Now I'm reading all the postings by the post-op sleevers and I keep reading the word "miracle". I can't wait to get my "miracle". I know it's a tool, believe me Dr. Lalor STRESSES that all the time!! He says you can eat around any of the surgeries.

Congratulations to all you who have been sleeved and are using your tool wisely! Can't wait to get back into MY skinny jeans!! WOO HOO!!

My biggestr fear with the surgery was tht I would only be able to get a little bit of food in my stomach.... but my body would need more. I was often hypoglycemic if I went without food and I was worried that I would get low blood sugar and be unable to raise my glucose level. It was bad.... glucose would get so low that I would become disoriented and confused, uable to process information etc...

I have had zero incidents of hypoglycemia since surgery. When I eat my 3-4 ounces of food... not only is my stomach full but I am SATISFIED!!!!!

It truly is amazing.

So glad I did it!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
