kimsretro 0 Posted June 1, 2006 I am scheduled to have surgery in the morning, and guess what, I started my period a week early. Did anyone else have their TOM during surgery? What did you do? :help:
Melissa Lea 1 Posted June 1, 2006 Hi Kim -- You are not the first, nor will you be the last one to be on your cycle during a procedure. Give your doctor's nurse a quick call today and find out if there is anything "special" you need to do or not do (like not wear tampon --usually no tampons allowed with surgeries). It's no biggie!! sheryl 3 Posted June 1, 2006 This happened to me. And duh, I didn't know that you weren't suppose to wear a tampon during surgury. Man, did it hurt taking it out (TMI, sorry!) They said that you normally just tell them and they get you the big-old industrial size pads and a pad under you, and it is fine... They are used to it. Whatever you do, do not use a tampon!! Ouch! JulyBandster 1 Posted June 1, 2006 I had my period for my surgery too. I considered wearing a tampon, figuring who would know or care, since they don't use catheters for such a short surgery..........well, the night before my surgery I was online and someone asked this same question - and she shared a story I have never forgotten.........she wore a tampon into surgery and didn't tell anyone. Hours later, in the recovery room, she realized she was wearing the mesh panties with the lovely GInormous pad - where the heck was the tampon? They TOOK IT OUT! OMG...........:omg: That's all I needed to hear, and I decided not to chance it! The morning of the surgery, I told the nurse - she walked over to a shelf and grabbed the panties and the pad and told me to suit up in the bathroom! That was it. It happens all the time. Don't sweat it.
niki 1 Posted June 2, 2006 Kim, Relax, you'll find tons of people (women) that had the same story has yours. Just tell it to your doctor (or assisting nurse), they're used to it and will give you a special pad, no big deal. Just don't wear a tampon! niki
