Feeling really tired.

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks out tomorrow. I feel really tired. I am working on being better about my Vitamins and such, but I feel really fatigued. I don't see anywhere in my millions of papers that I am to be taking Iron, but I need some suggestions from others who may know a good combo and when I am to be taking what and what not to take it with. Can you tell I am tired? I need some Vitamin help. Thanks.:)

Bless your heart. . but I can totally relate with you! I still feel very tired at 5 + months out myself. . but i take B12 x 2, Multivitamin x 2, Iron (don't know why but they said so) I dropped the Calcium cause it constipated me big time. . .but i really don't know why i'm taking all this since we didn't have the gastric bypass and don't have malabsorption problems. . . oh well, but i'm sure the tiredness is from the sudden drop of calories and the body's way to compensate for it. . . well good luck!

I don't take Iron outside of my multi-Vitamin. I take a sublingual B12 everyday again just because it keeps me on track for my Vitamins.

I did make the mistake of switching my multi once, and the new one didn't have Iron. I felt weak, lethargic and just blah. I switched back, and within a couple of days felt so much better.

Are you able to get all your Protein in as well? That always made me feel better when I could get at least 60gr in per day.

Before adding Iron, I would check with your doctor. You do not want to take it if it's not needed.

At four weeks out I don't think that it is unusual that you feel tired, most do.

At four weeks out I was still getting over the weird sleeping thing where I would wake up at 4 or so and couldn't get back to sleep.< /p>

Are getting enough calories? What about Protein?

Some are only taking in 600 to 800 calories per day and I don't think it helps to lose when you are down that low and also makes you tired.

Things will improve for you especially over the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Blessings Russ

I tried adjusting my B12 and I did take some Iron. I have been taking the b12 daily instead of twice a week and I am going to alternate taking the iron every other day. I have been know to become anemic at random times. I felt much better today. I am terrible about Protein. I know I need to get more in. I ate some cottage cheese today a yogurt and had a 25 gram Isopure drink which gags me. I also had a few bites of beef Jerky (pure beef no additives) I have been feeling very thirsty and drinking tons of Water but never feeling like I get enough. I have had headaches this week waking me at night. I assume the dry NM climate is partly to blame.I am going to ask my primary doc to run some blood test and make sure everything is ok. I am going to try and work really hard towards protein. I love pinto Beans. I guess that might have to be my main staple. I have chocolate, banana and isopure pineapple banana orange...if anyone has a recipe that I can tolerate- please share. I have also discovered I have food allergies. Some of the yogurts give me a headache..Geez...Anyway..thanks for any thougts and words of wisdom..I sure need them.

It does get better. I am now 5 months post sleeve. My energy is finally back to normal these past few weeks. Mine probably took so long because I work 5 shifts of 14-16 hours a week.

Just be sure to take your vitamines as ordered by your surgeon. I also find that if I do not get enough Protein in that I have a really bad time with fatigue.

Congratulations on your new sleeve!

It really does get better! I'm three months out and just hit my first wall of fatigue. Reading this thread I just realized I changed Vitamins and I don't think I'm getting the Iron right now. Thanks Tiffy for that heads-up.

I take 2 Multi, 1 B12, Dry D3, B Complex, 6 calcium citrate chews from Bariatric Advantage, Biotin when I can remember and 2 Protonix daily.

Interesting. I posted on the post-op forum about feeling woozy and shaky at night. I just removed the iron from my regimen at my nut.'s recommendation (my bloodwork showed that my iron was too high!) I hadn't connected the two, but now I'm wondering.

I'll definitely ask the nut. about this when I see her next week.

Thanks for everyone's input. I am taking a Gummy adult Vitamin but it seems to upset my stomach and cause the its coming back to you feeling. So, today I chewed a Bariatric Advantage chewable and it took an hour for my stomach to clam down. I thought I was going to be sick and now all day I can feel my stomach. Up to this point I was never really able to feel it. I did take the B12 and one calcium citrate so far. The Calcium citrate is suddenly causing me nausea too. I never had an upset stomach except in the hospital.. Today is exactly 4 weeks. Is it possible to become more sensitive? Is my stomach healing and getting sensation? Anyone have this experience? Is it the Vitamins? :(

I read an interesting article on Iron levels, and when people take extra iron.

It specifically stated that if we aren't deficient, our bodies aren't going to use it properly. Kind of like a safeguard I guess. I follow this blog, and I follow her on OH because she is well, pretty much amazing.

Weightloss Surgery Vitagarten

She's always my go to for posts about Vitamins.

I'll see if I can dig up the article and I'll shoot it to you. I know you like all the geeky stuff like I do so if I can locate it, I'll post it for you.

My multi only gives me 50% of my DV, and I've never popped below normal on my hemacrit, hbg or my iron ferritin levels. But, the real test will be coming up soon at my yearly. They say it can take a year post-op before we get deficient on anything. So, I'm pretty stoked to see if my body has maintained it's levels. At 8 months I was fine, and at 9 months and a couple of weeks I was fine on everything. Holding my breath, and saying a few prayers that all is still well.

I, too, was extremely fatigued at 8 weeks and went to my GP. We reviewed what I was eating and she told me I wasn't getting enough calories (only like 500/day). I upped my calories with more Protein and am feeling much better. Just my experience. Is anyone taking Viactiv Vitamin chews? I have no problems with them at all. Can we take 2 protonix/day? Don't need it for acid, but the hunger issue intrigues me. Thoughts?

I decided to take my multivitamin twice a day and B12 every other day. I am having a terrible time stomaching the calcium citrate and am heading to the store to find another brand. I am feeling much better and oddly enought the scale shows I dropped a couple of pounds. Maybe I was healing or something..The body is a complicated piece of machinery. I guess you have to experiment with the Vitamins and when to take them. I have found that I can tolerate foods quite well just small amounts. Maybe I feel better because I am getting good nutrition in small quanity versus trying to drink my Protein. I had two boiled eggs yesterday 1 lean Hebrew National and some cream of mushroom Soup 98%ff and a couple of bites of cottage cheese. I felt good and the scale moved.. Woohoo. I am feeling a bit tired today, but I have a labor intensive job (pet grooming) and 3 children to take care of at the same time. I think the fatigue today is normal. Thank you everyone for all your info. It really does help. :lol0:

Follow your nutritionist and surgeon's orders, of course, but please don't skimp on the B12! I take a B12 sublingual every single day.

The reason I'm singling it out is that B12 is probably the most important, most unheard-of Vitamins for sleevers! Without enough B12 you can rapidly develop severe, irreversible brain damage.

Check with your doc. I doubt B12 deficiency is causing fatigue, but hearing that you were taking it weekly scared the heck out of me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
