I am trying my best to make sure that I am walking as much as possible. How much should I be walking 4 days post op?

I was instructed to walk as often as possible, and tried to walk at least once every hour. I was limited on how much walking I could do early out, but I usually managed the once every hour that I was awake.

Hope you are feeling well ! ! !

My instructions are to make sure I get up and walk around at least 5 minutes on every hour. Additionally, to try and walk for 30 mins a day besides that. It can be 3 x 10min walks, 2 x 15min walks or 1 30 min walk. I tried for the first time yesterday (my 4th day post op) and surprisingly walked 35 mins at once with no problems. Will be doing so again today.

Thanks guys for the info. I am going to try to boost up my walking. But I am in horrible pain over neck pain from sleeping in different possitions. I was a side sleeper prior to surgery and now I have to sleep on my back and my neck is screaming and I can't turn my head hardly at all. I tryed sleeping on my side twice now and 30 minutes later was having horrible nausea and pain so I took that as my stomach saying it wasn't ready for that. I will just have to manage, but I will boost the walking to help with the gas. Thanks ladies.:tongue2:

I was able to sleep on my side on day 5. It was glorious.

I think with walking its more important to do it often then a long time.

You'll be fit as a fiddle before you know it.

Hang in there, it gets better

I've had the same problem because I'm a side sleeper too. sleeping has been so uncomfortable and I already had a bad back so sleeping on my back has been rough!!! My back really hurts when I go for my walks too. I am mostly off pain meds but am taking them an hour before going for my walk and that helps.

As someone who is a couple days ahead of you - it gets better! I know everyone is different, but after 7 days I am not able to sleep on either side. My right side is the most sensitive, so I'm gingerly sleeping on that side. However, I've been able to sleep on my left side for the last two nights.

I'm a stomach sleeper, so it'll be a while before I return to that position:lol0:!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
