Carbs, Proteins and Calories???????

Hi there, I'm in my 3er week after surgery and I think this week I hit the stall because the scale is not moving, so my question is how do I know how many carbs, Protein and calories I'm taking a day? Because I'm not eating that much in fact last night was the first day I felt satisfied because i ate guacamole with 1 medium mash potato that was so good. But in general my diet goes like this:

7:00 am Cup of coffe in the morning

with 22 oister crackers 60 cal (that what it says in the package)

9:00 am 1 boiled egg

11:00 am Protein shake arround 3oz

1:00 pm home made vegetable Soup with chicken and I blend it

3:00 pm Protein Shake 3oz

5:00 pm Yogurt

7:00 pm more vegetable Soup

Ok, Water is being dificult because after diner I have to wait 90min to drink so my total Water per day is not higher than 20oz

Can someone help me in whats wrong?? and if posible with food alternatives I'm tired of the vegetable soup

Use myfitnesspal.com to track your food. It will break down the Protein, fat, carbs, and calories for you.

Did your surgeon not give you a guideline or recommendation for calories, carbs, Protein?

Why do you have to wait 90 minutes to drink anything after dinner?

You're definitely not getting in enough fluids, and you're body is probably retaining what little Fluid you are putting in there.

My daily recommendations were:

600-800 calories

no more than 30gr of carbs

60+ gr of protein

64oz of Clear liquids

If you don't want to track online, you can food journal all of it, but you'll have to look up the protein and carb counts of the foods you are eating.

As for food options, you can try some thinned out refried Beans with cheese and add some greek yogurt (the plain non-fat) for additional protein. Cottage cheese, ricotta bake (look in the recipe section on here for how to make it), tuna/chicken/egg salads were all on my mushy stage diet, and I'm not sure if you are there yet. Hummus is a good option for the full liquid stage. You can puree or blend just about anything especially chili, cream Soups thinned out as well.

Hi, Tiffy and thanks for the web site I star using it yesterday and it was great, I'm right on target less than 800 calories, 35gr of carbs, and 83gr of Protein and yesterday and today 40oz of Water. I'm a stay home mom and I go up and down the steps all day long and I work hard all day. I'm in my 3er week after the surgery I have loss 20 pounds in my first two weeks but by this week the scale is not moving and that stress me. Today I cancel the greek yogurt for the cottage cheese because this one has less carbohydrates I'm working into the water, but nothing happen. please help.

You're in the 3 week stall, and it's very common.

If I were you, I would trade in those crackers for some cheese, or a higher Fiber carby food such as Beans or edamame.

The veggies will give you more Fiber, and probably help you feel better in general. If you cook the veggies, try steaming(microwave or stovetop method) or roasting them in the oven.

I'm not sure if you can have veggies yet, just check with your nutritionist or surgeon.

Also, take your measurement right now, tonight. Measure around your waist, hips, thighs, and chest at least. If the scale doesn't move the next week remeasure and see if you're losing inches.

The scale will move, I promise. Your body just dropped 20lbs in 2weeks, been through major surgery, and your feeding it about 1/3 of the calories you ate pre-op. It's kind of pissed off at you for everything you've done to it.

Sip more water, try to hit that 60+ mark, that will help keep you from retaining water.

Don't stress, your body will hold on to more weight. Put the scale away and don't weigh until Saturday or Monday.

Here's my surgeon's suggested sample menu for 3 weeks out:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup Cheerios w/ 2-3 oz skim milk

1 oz. mozzarella cheese stick

Lunch: 2-3 oz baked cod

1/2 small baked potato

1/2 cup green Beans

1/4 cup canned pears

Snack: 8 oz skim milk

Dinner: 2-3 oz turkey

1/4 cup wild rice

1/2 cup cooked carrots

1/4 cup canned peaches

Snack- 8 oz skim milk

It could be that you're not getting enough of the right calories--and lose those oyster crackers--carb city! Good luck!

Tiffykins: you said above your dr recommended calories were 600-800 with 60 grams of Protein, 64 oz of Water and less than 30 grams of carbs...how many grams of fat were recommended? Also, are these the recommendations forever? I am getting the recommended protein (sometimes more protein which could be an issue) and water. I have diet recommendations from my dr but not in grams of carbs, calories or fat so am curious. In week 5, I am now getting 1000-1200 calories per day. I did not think it was possible but I am tracking my calories on Spark and that is what it is telling me. I know I was only getting 600 or so a couple of weeks ago. I still feel like I am hardly eating anything. 3 very small meals and 2 smaller snacks...sometimes my leftover lunch is my afternoon snack (soup or chicken salad, no more than 2-3 oz). I am still in a stall but also still optomistic it will break. I also am on the treadmill for at least 2.5 miles per day. Look forward to your comments. Thanks!

Sorry to hijack the Tiff question, but Dr. Aceves gives the 600-800 calorie recommendation and then what percentages of your food calories should come from and according to him you should never exceed 40g of fat in a day.

I'm sorry for my delay in response.

Those guidelines were just during my losing stage. I did not have fat guidelines. My surgeon figured with my intake fat wasn't a huge concern.

You could be losing inches. With your exercising, and caloric intake, you're more than likely burning fat and gaining some muscle.

Now that I'm in maintenance, I consume 1500-1800 calories per day, 60-100carb grams, and 60-100gr of protein. It really just depends on what I feel like eating on any given day.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
