oreilly76 0 Posted June 1, 2006 Two weeks from today (at this minute) I will be in surgery getting banded! I am a wreck and super excited too! The next two weeks will be hard to get through. I keep playing over and over in my mind "Am I ready, Can I make the changes, etc..." BUT at the same time I keep picturing myself eating healthy, feeling great, exercising and loving life! So, What I am wanting to know is what made life easier for you the first few weeks after surgery? I bought Unjury in all 4 flavors, bought a little electric milkshake/drink mixer (but it makes it really foamy, anything better out there?) and I am going this weekend to get some Isopure... I have broths on hand... what am I missing or what made life more tolerable afterwards? Thanks to all!
vinesqueen 2 Posted June 1, 2006 get some good sugar free popsicles, fudgesicles, Jello and pudding You won't be eating an entire little cup of Jello or pudding, but they are nice to have on hand. I liked miso Soup too.
sunsett 2 Posted June 1, 2006 Ice pops are great. Yogurt is good, and I now love those cup in hand Soups. It will take a while to get the whole thing down but you can have it a few times. There really isn't any protien in them. My favorite thing post-op was and still is egg salad, scrambled eggs with salsa on top, corned beef hash, pudding. I was able to go on mushies after 2 weeks which was a wonderful thing!!! Good luck your going to love your band!!!
gentlespirit 1 Posted June 1, 2006 Congratulations! It'll be here before you know it. A heating pad, V-8 was a staple for me, prune juice or milk of magnesia to "get things moving" if necessary, and I second the others' suggstion of sugar free popsicles...they really seemed to soothe. legallyKristin 0 Posted June 1, 2006 If you have to do Clear liquids for a week like I did, I lived on light white grape juice (sweetened with Splenda) and broth with unjury unflavored Protein powder. (www.unjury.com) It tasted like regular broth and the Protein helped keep me "full". Oh and the best thing I bought, was definately a recliner. Getting in and out of bed with a sore abdomen is tough, so I slept in the recliner for about 2 weeks...it really helps! Best of luck with the impending surgery! PhotoNut 7 Posted June 1, 2006 Check out this thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14814 And I think we all go through the "Am I ready for this" phase. Honestly, I think we've all been ready for it for a LONG time. If only the band had been available when I was 20. What a difference it would have made in my life. Best wishes on your banding and journey!
oreilly76 0 Posted June 2, 2006 Thanks everyone! I can't imagine how I will manage to get 45gms Protein in a day!! And 48oz water!! It will be tough! I am allowed to drink anything that can go throw a straw those first two weeks... broths, shakes, etc... I guess Jello maybe out because it won't go through a straw? I had my pre-op appt and got all my RX's and went to the hospital for my interview... I can't believe this time in two weeks I will be banded!!!
legallyKristin 0 Posted June 3, 2006 My doc said SF Jello was fine as long as I let is sit in my mouth (or chew) until it was melted again. Kristin
