Recommended Posts

:crying:Hey Gang, thanks for your prayers & thoughts. I made it through surgery without a hitch. I thought I was home free...until they took away the morphine. I was doing soul train walks down the hallways around 3am LOL. I'm home and was sent with tylenol w/codine. I'm in pain. Don't know if I'm just wimping out or need something more for tonight? Any thoughts out there???:001_smile: Happy Destiny

What KIND of pain are you in? Is it incision pain? Is it internal soreness? Is it gas pain?

It will get better everyday. I am on day 4 and this is the best I have felt so far. The frist day home I wanted to go back. I could not drink the narcotics they sent me home with it made me sick so I have been taking liquid Tyleno and it has worked. I hope you feel better soon.

I am there with you. I was sleeved on the 17th. Had extreme pain, especially in the shoulder blade area. Since then the pain has eased up but ive had nausea and unable to hardly get my liquids down. It's hard to take pain meds when you have an upset stomach and can hardly drink anything!!

I can so relate! I didn't think I could handle the pain the first day home, but things have progressed smoothly and I'm feeling really good today (day 6)! Hope you are too! I feel so optimistic and it feels good!!!!:)

Anyone have an incision that looks like it is stuck in? I have one on my left lower abd that really hurts. Hurts to cough, move, deep breathe. And it is sort of puckered in like it was stitched out of place or something????

My incisions also look like they were stictched out of place but i think that is normal, it is going to look strange to have new wounds on our bellies :puke4: Is it the actual wound that hurts or internal? I have not had any wound pain and i was sleeved the same day as you. I only have internal discomfort, and problems staying hydrated because i can't get in enough liquid without feeling "stuffed". Are you taking pain meds?

Pain is all at that incision site. I called the Dr. office today and was told it was normal as this is where he did most of the manipulation of the instruments from. No problem with drinking, I do feel full easy, but if I wait 10- 15 min can drink more. I'm just taking tylenol today, the lortab was making me nauseous, though I had zofran so no vomiting, I am opting to just hurt a little more. I am wearing an abdominal binder which helps and splint the area with a little pillow (small Teddy Bear acutally) when I cough or go to sit down, walk, etc.

My pain meds also made me nauseated so i am dealing with the pain and also taking Zofran so i can consume more liquids. You sound like you are doing very well for being one week post-op!!

Are you trying to scare me for my surgery on Tuesday? I hope everything went well. I have been thinking about you for a couple of days. I don't know what you are going through yet, but I know that you are a strong woman, and you can handle anything! Keep me posted on your progress.

Hey Holli, I know you are going to be fine!!! My prayers will be with you tomorrow! Please call or write if you need anything! I'll be back in town on Wednesday! I'm getting my drain out tomorrow! Things are going really well and pain is minimal!:)

Mine looks the same and is feeling better. Sandy (the RN practitioner) told me that's probably where they took the stomach out. She said her's went down, but not all the way. Luckily mine is in my waistline, so doesn't look too bad. What kind of pain meds are you using?

Good to know, I am taking tylenol and lortab, doesn't do much really. But maybe I am being a baby. Everything else is fine. No trouble drinking or eating, bowels are a little loose, but I was expecting that. And I was told that this area would be more sore, but didn't expect this much. I think it is the dimpling in the skin that bothers me, feels like the tissues want to tear away.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
