Beth 0 Posted May 19, 2010 Hi all...Newbie here so please be gentle. :scared0: I am seriously considering a revision from a lapband to the sleeve and in the process of looking for a surgeon. I called Dr. Nicholson's office today to ask about a consultation and they told me that I needed a current Upper GI and EGB before I could even come in. Is that standard for any Dr. or is this just his office? Any advice/insight is greatly appreciated or any recommendations for a Dallas/Plano area surgeon. Swiftflow 6 Posted May 19, 2010 Dr. Daryl Stewart also does revisions you can look the office up at weightlosssurgeon.com However, I have heard great things about Dr. Nicholson too.
Tiffykins 673 Posted May 19, 2010 TexasT had her revision performed by Dr. Wade Barker. I have a personal friend that just recently went to him for her sleeve, and raved about him. I have zero personal experience with him, but I have met TexasT (Tara) and my long time friend in Texas have nothing but fabulous things to say about him. You could contact TexasT on here by clicking on the member list up top. AnnaK used Dr. Nick for her revision if you'd like to contact her for her personal experience. Best wishes in your research. kalew 0 Posted May 23, 2010 Just had my sleeve by Dr. Nick. Had a great experience! Baylor Plano was a great facility and I have had more than my share of operations, the nurses were great and happy (sounds weird but a happy nurse is so much better all else equal). I didn't need a revision, so don't know what his requirements would be, go to one of his information seminars and talk to him. He is very approachable. I had an UGI pre-op due to hiatal hernia. TexasT 99 Posted May 23, 2010 As Tiff said, Dr. Barker did my revision (he also did my lapband). All I had to have done pre-op was a cardiac clearance. I didn't have to have any extra tests before my consult. Let me know if you need any other info. I'm so glad I had the VSG done. I'm almost to goal now, after being stuck at the same weight for 3.5yrs. I've lost 7 inches off my waist since surgery in January, which just amazes me! I actually went out Friday and bought size 8 capris. My highest size before WLS was a 18-20. You will love having a sleeve!
TX HS FB Coach 0 Posted July 10, 2010 I'm getting sleeved on July 26 and Dr. Nick is doing my surgery. The experience thus far has been awesome. I'm sure when I am sore and miserable the first couple of weeks after the surgery I will not be so happy with him!! I am curious how hard the first 2-3 weeks are as I am a high school football coach and I start practices 2 weeks after my surgery.

I am curious how hard the first 2-3 weeks are as I am a high school football coach and I start practices 2 weeks after my surgery. I also had Dr. Nick, the first couple of weeks are a little tough, but not bad, every day is a little better. Wear an abdominal binder it helps a lot, do your incentive spirometer! and Drink Drink Drink especially since you will be out in the heat! Isopure, Vitamin Shoppe has a good Protein supplement "Nectar". Order some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury on line, I mix the vanilla with my coffee (has to be under 130 degrees or it will clump) but then you have a latte, but is clear liq. I also used a little pillow to splint the left side where they take the stomach out as it is by far the only place that really hurt. It still bothered me a little the third week but not bad, when it hurt I sat down and it was better.
mommytoethan 1 Posted July 17, 2010 i'm in dallas and my doctor is Dr Castro. he does free consults and does not require any testing before the consult. he did my band and my revision. he's wonderful and very easy to talk to. if you decide to look around for another doctor, i would be happy to give you his office number. he operates at 5-6 different hospitals. dbrar88 5 Posted July 29, 2010 I too had called his office and was told the same. I called our GI doctor and couldn't get in for an appt until the middle of Oct (that didn't include scheduling for the test). So, my other choice was Dr. Kim. I saw him last week and absolutely feel very comfortable with him and glad that I am going that route. He is in Colleyville and is also highly commendable for revisions, etc. We talked at length about my band and the long stall in weight loss. I am scheduled for a revision on Sept 27th....with a full liquid diet one month prior. That will be the hard part, but well worth it in the end! Good luck on your choice!!!
