hospital stay packing?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have started a list of things that I need to take to the hospital since I will be there a day or two. Is there any items anyone would like to suggest?

Your own pillow if that is a big deal to you, it is to me.

Lip balm is a biggie as your mouth will and lips will be very dry.

Comfy Slippers for walking.

Loose clothes to wear home.

Lounge pants, a front closure/snap loose sports bra, heating pad, I like having my own fleece blanket it's for personal comfort not because they don't give us plenty of blankies.

The front closure sports bra was so wonderful. I really hate walking around a bunch of strangers especially other patients and possibly their visitors without a bra. It's typically cold in the hospital, and for me it's just embarrassing to bebop down the hall with my boobs bouncing around, nipples poking through the gown or my t-shirt.

Definately need the lip balm or whatever your favorite is. Body lotion (the hospital lotion smells bad usually); something to read, brush, toothbrush, whatever you usually use to wash your face with. I'm packing too for surgery tomorrow. Getting nervous, have been trying to keep busy all day, doubt I will sleep much.

I forgot about lotion... I have that in my over night bag now. LOL. Yes I have started packing my bag 5 days early. Can you tell I am ready for this??

The most important thing I took was my robe! I walked the hallways alot and would of felt naked without it :)

And lip balm!

Best of luck

Hiya! Good luck tomorrow! In addition to what's already been said I am also taking wisps (those toothbrush thingies that don't need water) for my breath, my face lotion, my nintendo ds and a book (in case I feel good enough to occupy myself), beano meltaways (for the gas everyone says I will have lol), slipper socks (i prefer these over full slippers because they aren't as hot, that's just me), hair ties for putting my hair up, my camera and phone, my ipod. I think I am overprepared lol. I'm also taking the other things mentioned - chapstick, lotion, my own pillow. I'm also taking travel toiletries like my Shampoo and body wash, since whatever they have at the hospital probably sucks. :)

Hope your day goes great tomorrow!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
