I'm just over a month post-op (was sleeved on 4/5/10). At my last doctor's visit I found out that I'm anemic. My doctor gave me precription Iron pills to take 3 times daily. They make me really nauseous...even when I take them with food. I finally stopped taking them and started eating raw spinach salads for lunch, iron fortified oatmeal occasionally and sunflower seeds (all have lots of iron). I'm feeling better...less tired and less pale looking. I was just wondering if anyone else went through the same thing post-op.

I'm sorry you're going through this. My multi has the daily requirement for Iron so I haven't had any issues.

I am glad to hear the Iron rich foods have helped. Will you have a follow up to recheck your levels?

were you taking your Iron perhaps at the same time as with you Calcium? i believe they are supposed to be 2 hours apart

I became anemic too. You can get Iron from Vitalady.com which is easier on the stomach. It's called tender Iron.< /strong>

I only have to take it once per day though.

I am a tender tummied person, but I take the chewable Bariatric Advantage Iron pills. I love them (they taste yummy) and I have had no issues with them causing any nausea.

I second this: my girlfriend has real problems with supplements; even baby supplements tend to make her want to hurl. But the Bariatric Advantage flavored chewable Iron she has no problem with.

Do make sure to get your levels re-checked and don't ignore it just because you "feel better." It's really important for us sleevers to keep up on our nutrition.

That is true. You are not supposed to take calcium and Iron within 2 hours of each other.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
