We are on the "Pathway" to get the VGS and yesterday we went to a group support meeting. Unfortunately everyone in the group had gotten the Roux En Y (sp?) surgery so no one had direct input to the VGS. But one of them was saying that with the sleeve you should expect to have alot of reflux, I have not heard that before. I could see if that was an issue prior to the procedure it still might be, but don't see how it could cause it. With a Lap Band I see it but not the the VGS. Anyone have answers to this? Thanks:001_unsure:

Early out some experience acid, and most are prescribed a PPI like Nexium, Prilosec for 3-6 months to protect the staple line. Some patients can wean off, some can't. I'm still on my Prilosec, but will probably be weaning off soon once I discuss everything with my surgeon at my 1 year follow up.

Some personal experiences I've read on OH state that their reflux was resolved post sleeve. I think it's a very individual experience and no one patient have the same exact acid issue.

The reason for the reflux is that your body is producing enough acid for your old big stomach. All that acid goes into your new little sleeve which cant hold it all.

I never had reflux before but now if I don't take a PPI I feel the burn. I'm hoping to wean off the ppi pretty soon, but I want to make sure I'm completely healed first.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
