Question about sleeping positions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am getting ready for my June 28th surgery for the sleeve... yeah!

My question today is it allowed to sleep on your side after surgery?

I have a mild/moderate sleep apnea that I deal with by sleeping on my side. If I sleep on my back I wake up often and don't sleep well at all.

When will I be able to sleep on my side?

Anyone know?

thanks,

judy

I couldn't sleep on my left side because that is the side that my drain had been on and it didn't hurt to lay on it, but if I slept on it for a few hours I would wake up and because the blood had pooled it was super sore. I could easily put pillows around me and sleep on my right side. Hope that helps!

I'm curious about this myself. I wasn't told anything about being "allowed" to sleep on my side or not, I was just told that it might be painful.

Here's a tip; if you have apnea problems sleeping on your back, try sleeping in an easy chair or use a wedge pillow. Sleeping more propped up like this keeps your airway from collapsing as badly and may be the edge you need.

I probably misspoke. I don't think there is any medical reason why you can't lay on your side, it is just uncomfortable.

Judy,

I don't know of any reason why you wouldn't be allowed to sleep on your side, other than it might not be comfortable.

I was sleeping on my side by day 2 post-op, and used a pillow between my knees and a pillow along the length of my side as a cushion. I did lay on my right side - my drain was on the left.

Good Luck and happy planning!

I was too scared to sleep on my side. I was afraid that it would affect the healing of my incisions. I slept on my back for a while and then tried to sleep on my side. That was a big mistake for me as it caused so much soreness and some pain the next day. I am almost 21 days out and I am now able to sleep on my side from time to time without discomfort.

Hi - I had my sleeve surgery last Wednesday. For the first night I slept on my back although propped up - the bed in the hospital could be adjusted. From the 2rd night could sleep on my left side because the right side was a bit tender where the drain had been. But from then on I've been able to sleep normally - even on my stomach, which is my preferred position.

So I think it depends on how you feel and how tender the incisions are.

I slept on my right side the first week. I don't have an easy chair, so I propped up pillows, so that I could sleep somewhat on an incline. It's hard getting comfortable the first few days.......but it goes by so fast.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
