jerryvic 3 Posted May 11, 2010 Hello, I am new to all this, but I do read a lot about the VSG. My questions have to do with how diabetes (specifically Type II solely on insulin) is handled after surgery? I am scheduled for the 20th of May but I still need more info from diabetics. Can I expect to come off the insulin? Do I still take injections but expect the glucose levels to be a lot less? Will I get low blood glucose symptoms eating so much less? Thanks for any replys. jerryvic
nagaraj 2 Posted May 11, 2010 It will be a slow but mist likely a full recovery from diabetes. I was a type II diabetic till I got sleeved on Dec 21, '09. There was a gradual reduction in sugar levels. In about 10 days I was totally off medication. I am now off medication for over 5 months now and check myself at least 4 times a week only to find that I am perfectly normal. My suggestion is to stick to your medication till the doc tells you to let go. On my surgery day, my sugar levels were high and worried the doctor a bit. Had oral medication and insulin to control it. I wish you a medication free future ! Life is simply fantastic.
jerryvic 3 Posted May 11, 2010 Thank you Najarag. I know my blood sugars should drop, and yes, I would love to be medicine free in the future.
Norma 10 Posted May 11, 2010 I had quick response to needing less insulin. I am off Byetta and Lantus since the day after surgery. I still take Novolog but am using less than 10 units a day.
jerryvic 3 Posted May 12, 2010 Thank you Norma, sounds like you are doing the right things. Do you think you will ever be insulin free?
