Hot Dogs R No Longer

Recommended Posts

I'm not a big hot dog fan, but I've been fortunate that I've been able to eat them as long as I chew, chew, chew (no bun of course). Considering I spend 5 of 7 nights at the ball park, I've had one or two in the last few weeks. I just make sure I dip it in mustard to give it some liquid to slide down with.:nervous

Yep, a good fill makes all the difference in eating them or PBing them! I had one this weekend, almost burnt, with chili and cheese and onions (no bun), good stuff!! I DO ALWAYS THINK OF NATIONAL LAMPOONS where the racoon mom tells the babies......"dont eat those, they are made of lips, ears, and assholes" or something like that. Kinda dulls the appetite, lol!!!

O.K. sandwich lovers....I, too, miss holding a yummy sandwich in my hands...can't do the bread thing, BUT I found something even better: Flat Out Bread. OMG, I am in heaven! They are just like wrappers, but taste much better and are lower in calories. Plus they have Fiber and Protein, too. The original flat out bread is 140 calories per piece (it's big) and the light flat out bread is around 90 calories. They have several flavors too. I love them so much, I swear I could sell'em!!!! I found mine in the deli section of the grocery store. Enjoy!!!!

Nathan's makes skinless hotdogs. I see them at the store all of the time.

Oooo....that's good to know sister. Thanks!!

Margo ~ I want one now!!! You describe a great sandwich. I will look for those when I get to that stage.

I just remembered that a hot dog was the culprit for my first, slim, pb, throw it up and out episode. I thought I was going to die. What are they made of anyhow?

Ya know what is so strange though??? I can & still do eat grilled Kilbasa & I love it!!! Its never been a problemm but I use fork & knife & cut very small pieces. With the hotdogs they simply just willnot work & ya know I am perfectly fine with that;0)

Glad to see though that I am in the majority & not the minority:0)

I have to chime in on this thread!! I am the one that was spoken of that has an obstruction with a hot dog & was throwing up black tar. :) :) It was a miserable experience & it makes me sick to my stomach when I think of the whole ordeal. :tired

It's beem about 10 weeks since that happened & it has been hard for me to even LOOK at a hot dog. However, last week I was at a family members house on vacation & they served HOT DOGS!! I didn't want to seem rude by not eating it. I wasn't sure what to do! So, I peeled off the skin & took small bites. (No bun!) It was delicious & I had no problems. The skin is the real culprit on these little boogers. They're like rubber & don't break down very easy which is why they are so dangerous for bandsters to eat. Now that I know I can eat them without the skin I think I will add them back to my list of foods I can eat.

I eat tube meat (generic term for anything prepared like a hot dog) frequently, but I always remove the skin first - no matter how long it takes. My current favorite are some I bought at Sam's Club - chicken "franks" with asiago cheese & spinach inside. MMMMM.

As for sandwiches, don't really miss them that much, with one exception -- a good old PBJ on soft white bread. I love me a good PBJ.

I have alway been a big fan of sandwiches. I could have lived on them. My doc suggested pita bread. We had a party last weekend for my daughter's birthday (24th). I ate a turkey burger (made with ground turkey and onion Soup mix, grilled) in a pita and latter that night had a Nathan's skinless hot dog in a pita. Everything worked fine.

Try pita bread, works for me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
