I am half way through the thick liquid phase. I wanted to add some hominy to my Soup. It gets pretty soft in the broth and I could chew it a lot in my mouth before swallowing. Do you think it is too soon? Or would upset my stomach? I would only have a small amount.

I am on the fence on this one.

Well... I don't know what Dr Aceves says but I'm pretty sure my doc would say liquid only. You could stick it in the blender.

Grits are ground hominy... I chewed until it was liquid and had no problems. When I was on full liquids I ate very thin grits. But that is me.. You should check with your doc :)) good luck!

Thanks. :-)

I decided not to have the homily. I am just going to wait and follow the diet as instructed. Why risk it. I have plenty of time for hominy later on. For now my stomach is learning how to take its first few steps just as a baby would. I wouldn't expect a newborn to go from taking a step to suddenly running a 5k, so why would I expect my stomach to be that way. It needs time to get used to the new foods and digesting them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
