Why am I feeling SO anxious?!

Recommended Posts

Hi there. So my husband and I have our consult with the surgeon coming up on May 12th. It's getting close and suddenly I am feeling extremely nervous! I don't typically experience a lot of anxiety but I am right now. Just thinking about it has my heart rate elevated and my breathing quicker! I am not nervous about the surgery itself whatsoever. What's making me nervous is that this appointment is going to give me all the answers.. and what if I don't like them? We have been working hard to get our dr appointments, records, psych, etc done before this appointment and hoping that we can schedule our surgeries during this appointment. We are going to be self pay so we don't have to wait on insurance approval... so it should all go smoothly right??? But for some reason I'm scared that it won't. I'm scared they will say no to us having surgery, or it will be a huge delay, or SOMETHING will come up. For some reason I feel like I would just be crushed. This is so silly :-P

Just needed to vent I guess. Thank you in advance for any replies - just FYI going out of town for 3 days so please don't be offended that I won't reply for a while!

I went though the same thing. I too am self pay and walked out with all my questions answered and a date. I was still anxious though. I remember not being able to stop smiling all the way home.

Its perfectly normal. This is such a life changing thing... a thing that we've wanted for sooo long. I was certain that something was going to go wrong. My family was going to stage some intervention (they don't know, I'm 44 but my mother thinks I'm 10)... my plane was gong to be delayed.... there was going to be a problem with the loan....It just didn't seem possible that there was an answer to my prayers and I could actually obtain it.

When I woke from surgery I was in pain but I had a little satisfied grin on my face. I remember having the thought "It's done...no matter what happens now I will loose this weight"

I think its just because its such a huge thing for us... we have tried everything... it almost seems impossible that we could actually get our wish.

Take Care

Stacey

I'm feeling really anxious, too, even though I don't have a date yet. I keep picturing what my grandmother will say if/when she sees me eating so little, and at the same time, wondering WHAT I will do if, like my grandma, when I'm 90 I weight 84 lbs. and there is no way for me to take in enough nutrients or calories. My grandma used to be a very "robust" woman. While she is amazingly healthy--healthier than I am, acutally--her weight has just dwindled over the years. I can't help but wonder how this surgery will affect us when we're old and feeble, and nobody knows because it hasn't been around long enough. ARGH!

I am new to this forum and was reading a little of what people are saying, feeling, etc. I am scheduled to have my verticle sleeve on May 28th in Colombia. I am totally excited yet scared like everyone else, mostly because I am a mom and would hate for something to happen to me and leave my girls alone but I've decided that I am no good the way I am. I need to be healthy and feel good so I can enjoy them for a very long time. Move forward and don't look back!:o

Hey everyone and thank you so much for the feedback... it's nice to know others have experienced the same feelings! I got away for the weekend and really helped me calm down... but now my appointment is TOMORROW! So I am feeling nervous but luckily not quite as nervous as I was feeling before :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
