Day 4 of pre-op liquids

Recommended Posts

So I'm on day 4 of the pre-op liquids and have doing really well. The only thing is that my mouth feels so dehydrated, especially my tongue. What's with that? I mean I am drinking plenty of Water in addition to my Protein Drinks. Has anyone else felt this?

You could be getting into the beginning of ketosis. Is it kind of a metallic taste in your mouth?

Once you get into ketosis, your breath, urine odor and even body odor can worsen, or become different.

Now that you mention it, I have had a strange taste in my mouth along with the dryness. Is it normal or should I be concerned?

Perfectly normal, and it will last for a couple of weeks while your body is adjusting to burning fat instead of the glucose from the carbs our bodies are used to getting.

Listerine breath strips and a tongue scraper help. Once you get past the surgery, and onto full liquids when you can get in some creamy Soups, milk, it will ease up.

This is good to know - so I am guessing these breath strips as well as gas-x strips are things to arm ourselves with LOL! Tiffy, where does one find a tongue scraper? I haven't heard of that.

I found a tongue scraper at Walmart. It looks like a loop with a handle. They are usually located with the toothbrushes and floss...

Thanks so much! At least I know there is an end to this. I'll definitely get the strips.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
