Scheduled for May 10th with Dr. Aceves. Although I have a full time job and care for three children, my mind has had so much time lately to think and rethink! Today I find myself wondering if I made the right decision on the doctor I am going to. I know I had a clear head and researched my choice, it has to just be this waiting game that is making me crazy!!!

If I had enough leave I would seriously take the rest of the week off! I am just no good right now!

I leave Saturday to go to my Mom's house and then Sunday heading to San Diego, the weather is showing thunderstorms at the airport I fly out of on Saturday, wondering if I should change my flight and leave on Friday, I can't chance missing the flight to San Diego Sunday morning.

I am one big bunch of nerves! Usually very cool headed but the time factor is getting to me!!!

Angie,

Its all normal. There is a lot of unknown going into a surgery in a place you've never been. You will be great. The minute you walk into the hospital and meet Lucy and Dr. Aceves any worries you have will melt away. Try to enjoy these last few days with your munchkins cuz it'll be a little while before you are at 100% for them. Good luck. PM me if you need to vent or have questions.

Anna

Aww I can only imagine what you are going through! I am anxious thinking about going there and I don't even have a date yet. Believe that you will be fine during and after surgery and leave no room for second doubts. Do you know if anyone from here will be there at the same time?

I think that the "am I doing the right thing" bit is very normal. I've seen a lot of folks on here go through it as their surgery date approaches. I've been feeling it too!

You'll be fine!

Angie.... what your doing is perfectly normal. I was absolutly insane the days leading up to surgery. I was so scared and full of "is this the right thing" "its forever" type of thoughts that I started to tear up in the elevator on the way to check in to the hospital. I was freaked out right up until "lights out" and i haven't had one regret.

I don't know if there is anything to do for that crazy overthinking that goes on before hand.... just sit back and know it will be behind you soon.

I wouldn't worry about chanhing flights and geting the perfect Protein and all that jazz. If there's a problem I'm sure Dr Aceves will accomodate. You'll just make yourself crazy worrying about it.

I didn't use Aceves but from what I understand you couldn't be in better hands.

Angie-

You will be fine having surgery with Dr Aceves. You did your research and decided that was the best decision for you. I had surgery with him on 3/22. I am an RN and I am extremely picky and not easily impressed. I could not find fault with anything. He is a good surgeon and the rest of the staff works very hard. Your nerves are normal. Just keep us posted on how you are doing.

Yep we all go through it. I sure did...especially as I'd never had surgery before except 2 c-sections but I was awake for those.

It was much easier than I expected and not so scary afterall.

You're going to do great!

I so understand how you are feeling. It takes courage to have this surgery and even more so outside of the US. I have read testimony after testimony from real people on this message board who have had Dr. Aceves and do not recall ever reading of any dissatisfaction, complaint or complication. He is a highly skilled and experienced surgeon having done many sleeve procedures. That would really help ease my nerves. I'll be thinking of you and keeping close tabs as your date approaches will send up prayers for a very good surgery and recovery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
