Edie 0 Posted May 4, 2010 I have been reading the threads for a while. Every time I wanted to reply to a thread I'd forget my password. I'm sure memory loss is not due to my sleeve! I was sleeved by Dr. Joya in Mexico 7 weeks tomorrow. I had a really rapid recovery and despite not being able to eat much at any one time, I don't feel like I even had surgery. I have not had any problems with infections, heart burn, etc. I feel very fortunate. My weight loss has not been rapid...it could be due to my age and slow metabolism, but as long as I lose I'm good with it. I weigh in on Thurdsays....call it naked Thursdays. I live with my 5th grade daughter and try to teach her that you need to monitor your weight but no more than once a week. I don't want her mood (or mine) to be tied to a number on a scale. Prior to surgery I weighed my-self never...only checked my weight at the doctors once a year. I didn't think there was anything I could do about the numbers anyways. My story in a nut shell. I am a single mother of one daughter. I decided to have weight loss surgery about 4 years ago but insurance did not cover it....despite $600 a month insurance premiums. So, like others I saved the money to go to Mexico to have the sleeve. I am hoping it is the best decision I have made in years...only time will tell! But I feel good about it and really do think this is the tool for me.

Barbara278 9 Posted May 7, 2010 I'd like to hear from some of you in regards to your weekly weight loss. Can you give me an idea of the number of lbs. you lose a week? Trinity, it really does vary from person to person. There are so many factors involved. Age, metabolism, diet, exercise. Some lose more rapidly than others do. The good thing is that we are all headed down. I'm 15 weeks out and have lost 53 lbs as of this morning.

Congrats on your success. Post some pics. I don't see the before and after pics of those who have already been sleeved.
Brian66 85 Posted May 7, 2010 Edie, Good luck to you -- it sounds like you are doing well. I haven't been sleeved yet, but I am hoping to having the surgery in the next couple of months. I am a single dad to three kids and I feel lilke I am doing this for my kids as well as myself. I am also hoping that I will be able to teach them a little bit about nutrition and responsibility regarding food as I take this journey. Keep up the good work! CraftyChristie 62 Posted May 7, 2010 Welcome Edie! Thanks for sharing your story. I am the same way and I only weigh myself once in a while. After surgery I will weigh no more than once a week and I may even stick to only at doctor's appointments. The scale can easily affect how you view your progress and I plan to focus on what **I** am doing right, what I can improve upon, how I am feeling, etc without letting the # on the scale affect everything. I see too many people (including my former self!) obsess over every little action because of what the # on the scale says. I think it's fantastic that you are teaching this to your daughter, too!!! Glad to hear you had such a speedy recovery - that gives the rest of us some hope that maybe it will be the same for us!
