mslpr 0 Posted May 2, 2010 I am scheduled for my sleeve surgery tomorrow a.m at 7:30. Although I started pursuing this back in January, it is almost surreal that it is about to happen! I am not really scared; just anxious to get through it and move onto the next part of the journey. I can be a pretty tough chick when I need to be and am hoping I don't have too much pain, as I'm scheduled to go back to work the following Monday. My job doesn't really allow for me to take alot of time off. I know everyone's body is unique in terms of the recuperation process, but I'm hoping to hear from some of you that I am not out of my mind thinking I'll be able to get back into my normal routine by next week. Thankfully, I have a management job so I don't have physically demanding activity at work, but my job can be very stressful. I work about 15 minutes away from home and don't have children, so in some ways I have less to worry about than I'm sure many of you do in terms of getting back into the swing of things. My boyfriend is the only person who knows what is going on with me and is very supportive; everyone else just thinks I'm taking a week of vacation! I have about 70 lbs to lose. Have been overweight most of my life. About 7 years ago I lost 150 lbs on weight watchers and looked the best I ever did, but let about 40 of those lbs creep back on over the last 4 years and it's scaring me. I'm 47 and want to make sure I stay healthy and don't experience alot of the health problems that run in my family. Of course, some of my motivation is "vanity based", but for the most part, I just want to feel good and stay healthy and lose the weight before I start going through menopause when I know it will be alot tougher. I have looked to youtube and sites like this for information and motivation and will continue to share my journey as well. Send me positive vibes for tomorrow! Swiftflow 6 Posted May 2, 2010 Best wishes to you--you will do great! I am just a few days out myself, by I am already feeling human again. My suggestion while in the hospital: Expect anesthesia to cloud your brain a bit immediately post-op--It may not for you but just be prepared for it, it does pass after the first good nap or so. Ask for your pain meds when you need them. My pain seemed really bad that first hour but then it all got so much better. Walk every chance you can--for me a few minutes after meds was perfect time to start walking. Follow your Doc's advise on getting started with sipping Water or Ice chips to get your liquids in. Don't let them forget about the sugar-free popsicles! they are a nice treat.
Sassie 0 Posted May 2, 2010 I am just a day behind you. Tuesday is my surgery day. Know that you are no the only one going through this. For me that help, you know that I am not alone. Try to keep positve and looking forward. and what I have been told, is " sip, walk, rest... repeat."
Frankie 0 Posted May 2, 2010 MSLPR- Good luck tomorrow. You will do just fine. Just keep thinking positive thoughts. You asked about going back to work in a week - for lots of folks that is no problem expecially if it is an office job. I took off 2 weeks just because I could but I actually went on a trip 1 week after surgery. Just expect that you will be tired and may need to nap when you get home. Thinking positive thoughts. cwalker 12 Posted May 3, 2010 My surgery was 3 days ago in Houston and the pain isn't as bad as you imagine, just use the pain meds to make you comfortable and get past the first 12 hours.
