My name is Richard and I'm an addict, of food that is, lol. I am currently weighing in a at 598 pounds which is 71 pounds less than my highest known weight. I'm 33yo and I'm tired of this life I'm living. I have done all the diets you can think of, had some success, at my lowest I was 538 from diet. I was 2 weeks away from getting a bypass in January of 07, but because I went on disability my insurance changed, and they rushed me through the process. I wasn't very thrilled about them bypassing things that someone else would have to go through, just to get me in for surgery. SO I canceled the surgery.I went to see a surgeon Dr Greg Schroder, on 4/21/10 about getting a lap band. He told me he wouldn't even consider the bypass at my weight. I was kind of relieved to hear that because I didn't want to be talked into that surgery. He suggested I look into getting the sleeve. I was thrilled to hear about this procedure, it was everything I was looking for in a tool to help me lose this weight once and for all. He showed me that there was only a 5% difference in weigh loss in the first year compared to bypass. I was SOLD!! My insurance won't pay for the sleeve, but luck for me I have a friend that is willing to pay for it for me, through a foundation he has. So now I just need to lose 10% of my body weight and I can get the surgery, among other things that's required by the Dr. I plan on starting a diet tomorrow to drop this 60 pounds as fast a possible. Anyway I just wanted to say hello to all of you, and look forward to sharing my story on here. Reading all the post on here has really motivated even more to do this . . . . Thank you all!!

Welcome Richard!

What are your plans for losing the 60 lbs?

Has your surgeon given you a supervised diet plan to follow?

Are you able to do any exercise at all? Do a little walking or anything?

I figure I will do a low carb, or carb cycling diet. Until the 2 week pre-op diet when I get close and schedule a date for surgery. I had good success with both, but not long term. I can do some exercise, obviously not a lot, but I am mobile. I have a membership to a gym that I've had for a year and haven't used at all, so I figure I might as well start using it now. I got a long road ahead of me, but I know I can do it.

Richard, Welcome. Good luck on your journey. I'm just starting mine with surgery in one week. Keep focused on your goal and it will happen. Chime in any time if you need some uplifting and prodding along.

Best wishes, Janet:biggrin0:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
