I have Aetna and got the official letter yesterday that I was approved. I knew I was because the doctor's office called to schedule the pre-op testing, but until I had that letter in my hand I didn't want to say anything. So it looks like my surgery will be sometime in the beginning of June. I have to say I'm excited and nervous about this. Reading all the posts here and the replies I've gotten from my posts helps reassure me that I'm making the right decision.

It's gonna be a long month until my surgery. Now I need to think about getting everything ready for after the surgery. I live alone so any suggestions on things to get before/after surgery would be appreciated.

Hi there

Congratulations!!

I'm scheduled for 10th June, so we might be around the same time. Like you I'm also starting to prepare things, clearing out food cupboards, starting to use a Protein shake for Breakfast, smaller portions, upping my exercise to maximise my fitness for the surgery.

Keep us informed on how your month is going, and when you get your date thru.

Kathy

Yippee!!!

Congrats!

What did your doc tell you about your pre-op starvation...errrr..diet instructions? did you get them yet?

There seems to be a wide range of what docs are doing.

Thanks everyone. I'll let you know when I get the offical date. I don't have the pre-op diet instructions yet, but I'm hoping get that soon. My only concern is that I have a birthday coming up and would hate to be on a liquid diet!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
