Calm before the storm

Recommended Posts

Surgery is Tuesday May 4th. As of right now I am feeling pretty calm. I have had my pre-op. Paid for everything. I need to wait til monday to know when I am supose to show up at the hospital. I am feeling pretty calm as of now. Though I know I am going to get anxious as it gets closer. I really need to sit down with the kids and let them know Mommy is going to the hospital. I am really not sure what I am telling them. They are 11 and under. So they don't need to know much other than Mom is going to be home and fine in one day. I have only told a close few because I am not ready to defend my choice. I would rather do that once I am sleeved.

Thanks for listening I just needed some where to empty some of the thoughts that are running through my brain.

I too had to tell my kids and they are 7 and 10. I just explained that I needed to have some surgery that was going to help make me healthier and that there was some things that needed fixing in my tummy. That seemed to be just enough to satisfy them. Plus I've had some other surgeries so my oldest is more familiar with surgery. Good luck with the conversation.

I hope I can say I'm calm in one week. I'm two weeks out and still a little overwhelmed with how to get my liquid and Protein in after the surgery.

You will do fine! We all did, this was my 18th major surgery and i flew through it. . .i really don't know what you would tell little kids other than what you plan to tell them. . .mine is grown, so she drove me to the hospital and waited for the doctor to talk to her and so on, she stayed with me the 3 days i was there. Good luck, nerves are normal! Your going to do great!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
