OkAY ..seriously???!!! How long has anyone stayed on Nexium or any other medication for that nasty stomach acid??? I have tried to go off for a day...and the constant burning started...and lasted and lasted ..I had even woken that next morning with the black acid all over my tongue and teeth...it was horrible.

It has been 5.5 months since my wonderful surgery. On a positive note I am down 75lbs!! So excited about that...I am 50lbs away from my goal weight....although my family doctor thinks I should loose 70lbs. :thumbup1:

It depends on a number of things. what you eat, how much, etc. my docotr said to take for at least 6 months and then see if i don't need it. I think He indicated that some people have to take forever. but I am not sure on that. In any event, it helps curb any hunger, that's for sure.

This is the very reason I refuse to go off my Prilosec. I'll be 11 months out in a couple of days, and personally, I'm perfectly content on my PPI until I'm further out.

I'm not willing to risk the acid or false hunger issue that many encounter when they go off the PPI.

Many congrats on your loss thus far, you're doing fabulous ! ! !

thank you everyone....the weight loss has been awsome! I feel great. I had no idea that the Nexium helped curb the hunger....awsome!!! If I have to stay on for the rest of my life..then that will be okay too...sacrifies to have a healthy BMI!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
