Post-Ops... Did anyone do this WITH their partners?

Recommended Posts

Hi... I'm Christie. My husband and I both want to get the sleeve this summer. I am SO THRILLED that he wants to do this too, for so many reasons. I was wondering if anyone out there is post op and has been going through this journey with a spouse or significant other that also had surgery!

I am wondering does it make it easier to keep on track? Are there challenges about doing it together? I think overall it will be a great thing because we will understand what each other is going through, and we will have to make the same changes. But I also worry there will be that 'partners in crime' feeling if we want to cheat or skip exercise and whatnot. I would just be very curious to hear some insights if anyone has done this journey together! Thanks!

My girlfriend was sleeved in November, and she was my inspiration to get sleeved in a week. So yes, there are people who do this with their significant others.

I think that like almost all "self improvement" type projects, it helps to have someone else who's going through the same stuff as you!

My husband and I went through the journey together in February, 2010. Best thing we have ever done. We have always gained and lost our weight together over the years. We have been married 30 years. We are both approaching a weight loss of 50 pounds. It is great to go through this together, I only have to cook one meal, we can support each other, we go to appointments together, and we really understand what the other one is going through.

Wow Connie.. you guys are doing so great. Thank you this is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to hear about. We have only been married one year (together for 3 1/2) but we have gone through cycles of losing and gaining together too. I would absolutely LOVE to hear more details about your daily life together, what you cook, do you work out together and when, etc... we are trying to figure out how things are going to be for us!

I am riding exercise bike several times a week. Hubby is not too active, as far as exercise, he needs a hip replacement, he walks with 2 canes. We are both working full-time. We have found with our diet that dry foods can be difficult to eat. So I have to trying to find recipes that are moist, with lots of flavor, high in Protein, low in carbs. I love to cook, so it's all been done with some adaptation. The problem is all the leftovers. food that is already cut up small is ideal, and can be frozen, or be reheated. Such as Soups or stews, meatballs.

Thank you for the info it is really helpful. I'm so sorry to hear that your hubby's hip is doing so poorly... will he be able to have the hip replacement?

I hear you on the leftovers, we've been thinking about that part too since we don't have kids yet to feed the rest to lol. But we have family members who never cook and would probably appreciate the leftovers,

Thank you again!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
