Let's Call This A Date....

Recommended Posts

I had my surgeon visit yesterday and everything went great. I got to pick out my DATE :001_smile: looks like May 20! I am so excited and nervous about the "new" me. I will have to start my pre-op diet the end of next week, that's really the only thing i'm not looking forward to. I have been stuffing all the bad things I will no longer be able to gorge on after surgery, and I think i've done it so much over the past week that i've made myself sick of it...please tell me i'm not the only one. I take that as a good thing seeings how I won't be able to have them any more once pre-op starts. That is the only thing that still has a hold of me, the fact that I know i'm going to miss food..not just food but "good" food. Does anyone else feel like this? Results will be worth it and getting to see these pounds come off..so that's what I keep telling myself. I have my psych eval on May 5th and then I am just patiently waiting for sugery day:w00t:! I am lucky to have wonderful family and friends who are supporting me and making sure that I am doing ok with everything...I thank God for them everyday! Seeing my kids and knowing that in just a couple months I can run with them and not be gasping for breath just brings a smile to my face and makes that surgery date look better and better:001_wub:!

You are certainly not the only one! Preop I made myself pretty anxious because I thought I would never get to eat certain things ever again. You will, I promise. I am just introducing foods back in and while I can't polish off a whole plate of cheese fries, if I plan ahead I can have a few of em. Most of the time that knowledge is enough for me. I am so excited for you to be able to play with your kids and not even think about your weight! How cool for you and your family. May 20th will be here in not time!

Many congrats on getting your sleeve date. I think most patients have "food funerals" pre-op. The one thing that I kept reminding myself is that with the sleeve there really are no food restrictions. I seriously eat all of my favorites and have lost all desire to eat large volumes. I eat my small portion, and if I want more I wait a couple of hours and eat a little more. That's the greatest thing, after the healing, and your progression through the post-op diet phase, you really do get to eat the things that you love. Once you are close or at goal, those options open up even more ! ! ! I eat really "good" food, and while I didn't eat a lot of junk while I was losing, now I definitely eat all the good, yummy stuff that keeps me sane, and my body fueled. I still don't eat a lot of junk. My body runs better on better quality food, but I never deprive myself of something that I truly want.

You're gonna love it, your kiddos will love it, and you'll feel so much better.

Best wishes and keep us posted on all your progress.

I did the same thing. I ate everything in sight until I was sick to death of food. I thought I would be so miserable without it, but I'm really fine (I'm still on liquids). I cant wait to have a little taste of something good again.... but the cool thing is I know I will. Hang in there and enjoy the ride.

I completely understand! My surgery date is May 13th and I start my liquid diet on May 5th. I keep thinking "om gosh this is my last week of food". Then a torrent of thoughts of what I should eat, how I shouldn't etc. I've done things like give up carbonated beverages and most sugar but there is still so much else. I have my pre-op tomorrow and I'm starting to get nervous and overwhelmed by it all.

I have a lot of support too and I know the results will be worth it, especially when I keep hearing everyone else. Hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
