stcyt 15 Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) two things. 1) when does the gurgelling stop (or does it). Its a kind of bubbly groaning that comes from my esophagus. :sad0: 2) how long will i be sore. I'm four days out and its definately better every day. I have never had surgery before so I'm wondering how long until the soreness is completely gone. :smile1: Thanks Stacey Edited April 26, 2010 by stcyt
pnw218 14 Posted April 26, 2010 For me at 2 months, the gurgling is pretty much limited to trying new foods. I do still burp like crazy sometimes when I get full. Where are you sore? If you have moved wrong or lifted something heavy, that might increase any pain. I don't remember much soreness at all - so it couldn't have lasted very long. Overall, you should continue to feel better every day and I would guess any soreness would be gone in a few days. The only lasting pain I have ever had past a week, was from my Tummy Tuck surgery. Good luck with your recovery!
stcyt 15 Posted April 26, 2010 Its just general soreness across the abdomen. Makes me want to protect the area if the car bounces etc. Its not bad, I just wouldn't want to go dancing or anything. I'm being real careful about lifting and bending. Just watching movies and taking lots and lost of walks. I think tomorrow I will go for a small hike (not steep, just about a mile of basically flat trail... I have to get out) Thanks STacey
pnw218 14 Posted April 26, 2010 I would guess just normal post-op soreness and it should be gone very soon. Good for you to be active!
thinoneday 445 Posted April 26, 2010 Just like PNW218, I only get the gurgling and burpies when i try new foods or food that won't agree with my tummy. . . otherwise there is nothing much. . . the soreness i really can't talk to you about much because this was my 18th major surgery so i've become somewhat "numb" to pain, i didn't really experience any pain with this surgery except for gas pain, but that is something that walking can take care of. . . good luck! I thought I had alot with 9! LOL Maybe that is why I have a high pain tolerance tho :tongue_smilie: You are a pro and I am not surprised that this surgery was easy for you. I have had at least two that were much worse.
spydersong 0 Posted April 26, 2010 I'm 9 days out - my incisions are still tender, but I haven't had any real soreness in about 3-4 days now, so soon you should be doing better
stcyt 15 Posted April 26, 2010 I'm 9 days out - my incisions are still tender, but I haven't had any real soreness in about 3-4 days now, so soon you should be doing better Are you still on liquids. I have rather confusing post op directions. I have one set from my doctor and one set from my coordinator. My doctors is extremely conservative. Clears for 7days then full liquid for 7 days then mushies for 21 days. I've been on clears for 5 now and my body is screaming for something more substantial. My coodinator said that my surgeons guidlines were extreme and that it would be okay if I paired it back a bit. Well, I would like too, but I'm scared. I don't want to %$#@ things up. I read Cornells bariatric guidlines for post op and they have you on mushies at day 4. I see lots of people on here that did mushies early. Just curious where you are in the process. Thanks Stacey
pnw218 14 Posted April 26, 2010 Stacey, I followed the Cornell University guideline the entire time. I stumbled upon it when I was searching food plans before surgery. I loved it. I certainly wouldn't eat anything crunchy or with little pieces that might get stuck in your seam, however, if you take a little bite or two, wait a while and your tummy feels ok, then proceed cautiously. The mushy foods really helped me to feel better. I could not do the liquid thing and function.
wannalise 16 Posted April 26, 2010 Stacy, I still get the gurgles if I drink too quickly or if I haven't had my nexium. I don't know if you had a drainage site, but my drain incision was tender for a couple weeks, and I always made it worse because I kept falling asleep on that incision. Stacie 1 Posted April 27, 2010 1. My gurgles stopped around 3 months. I remember how bad they were at night, it was a funny joke between my husband and me. But recently noticed that I really don't have those weird noises anymore. 2. I was sore about a week and a half, like how you are talking about wanting to hold you stomach. I had that too. In hindsight, I would have gotten an abdominal binder because it was a big discomfort for me at the time. But it doesn't last too long. take care!
stcyt 15 Posted April 27, 2010 Whats an abdominal binder? Where do you get one? I was thinking about just wearing a tight undershirt to hold things still.
stcyt 15 Posted April 27, 2010 Ahh, looked up the AB on line. I'll look a med supply store around here tomorrow. thanks stacey
Tiffykins 673 Posted April 27, 2010 Have you tried SF Jello? That really made a huge difference when I was on Clear liquids for 17 days. I'm a firm believer that we should trust our surgeons/nutritionist as they are the professionals. I know they aren't gods, but they have way more experience than we do on this procedure. food intolerances from advancing your diet too quickly can cause vomiting which can cause stress on your staple line. I promise I am not trying to scare you, but the guidelines that your surgeon have are in place for many reasons. Hang in there, once you get to full liquids, sf pudding/custards/greek yogurt/ and thinned/strained cream Soups, you'll definitely feel better. Just a couple more days, and you'll get more variety, and you'll feel so much better.
stcyt 15 Posted April 27, 2010 Ahh, sugar free Jello, thats a great idea. maybe i can put my unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury in it. I've been looking for a way to use it as I don't like it in Water. Thanks guys Stacey
