i am hungry

Recommended Posts

I didn't do the liquid stage very well either. I was into soft mushy foods by the end of the first week. Mainly yogurt, cottage cheese, potato Soup, mixed fruit cups, mashed potatoes, sugar free pudding and Protein shakes - Atkins, Quixtar (Amway) brands and Premier that I found at costco. It has 30 Protein in 11 oz.

I needed the substance to feel better and not so weak and tired.

Hang in there! It will get easier : )

It got better for me when I was able to start eating real food again. The first few weeks are the most difficult, I couldn't stop thinking about food. Now it is the exact opposite, I am never hungry! Are you on any kind of acid reducer, nexium really helped me with my hunger pangs. Don't worry it only gets better from here on out, just fight through the head hunger and try to keep yourself occupied with other things. Best of luck to you, and congratulations on getting your surgery!!

It'll definitely get better. Your stomach nerves have been severed and traumatized so you aren't going to get a full sensation. I felt much better when I got to full liquids. Cream Soups, sugar free puddings, and greek yogurts, I could only eat about 2-3 teaspoons each time, but it made me feel better. The food separation is different for everyone. I went 22 days without anything to eat or drink while I was being "fed" intravenously so the mental food separation took quite awhile for me to get over. I didn't struggle with a lot of head hunger because I dealt with that with the band. But, that doesn't take away the desire to actually put something in my mouth.

Finding variety definitely helped once I was released for food. Going from sweet to salty, like sf popsicles to chicken broth to gatorade really made me feel better while on Clear Liquids.

Hang in there.

That's what my post-op diet guidelines specified.

You really are in the rough spot. I remember not being able to swallow Water but thinking about tacos. I think there is the obvious addiction part, and then that whole human nature thing of knowing we can't have something makes it seem even more desirable.

It will take a few weeks of really being careful with your new tummy, but soon you can add things in and thats when the learning has really started with me. This little stretch you're on though is just a brief endurance race. You can do it. And if you get mad or frustrated feel free to vent or PM me. I understand all too well what grieving an unhealthy relationship with food is like. Somedays I'm still doing it.
