youknowit 11 Posted April 22, 2010 Oh, the one quote I should not have read: "Exercise by itself is pretty useless for weight loss." -- Kill me now. LOL Weighing the Evidence on Exercise - NYTimes.com
misseye 2 Posted April 29, 2010 But! "The newest science suggests that exercise alone will not make you thin, but it may determine whether you stay thin, if you can achieve that state."
youknowit 11 Posted April 29, 2010 Oh, I know... but seriously, without the sleeve, we'd never get there with exercise alone. I'm still workin it, for sure!
misseye 2 Posted April 29, 2010 I couldnt have out the sleeve. But I figure 6 hours in the gym a week is a small price to pay for keeping the weight off so I am glad to have read that.
youknowit 11 Posted April 29, 2010 Me either... and actually, I am starting to look forward to the working out now... which, I NEVER thought I would say. I feel icky when I don't go, maybe this is an "addiction transfer"? Not a bad one, if that's the case... PS... looks like you have kicked some ass with that sleeve, girl! Below goal?! YA! misseye 2 Posted April 29, 2010 yeah, I really feel awful when I dont go now. Moody, tired, down. Thanks. My goal wasnt especially ambitious, but I am pleased with my progress.
kromrider 3 Posted May 3, 2010 Very interesting article. I think since we have had WLS our calories are being restricted in a much different way then those who have not had WLS. I think that exercise will have a more positive affect on us. The studies that my Dr. quotes say that exercise along with joining a support group are the keys to long term successful weight loss. calypso 0 Posted May 19, 2010 Time magazine ran a similar article a couple of months ago as their front page story. Except it seemed to emphasize that exercise increases hunger.
deletedsally 8 Posted May 19, 2010 Before I had this surgery, I kept doing research on ghrelin to see if I could find some way to lose weight that wouldn't increase ghrelin production because I always got hungrier and hungrier any time I lost weight. Even weight loss achieved through exercise alone (no calorie reduction) resulted in marked increases ghrelin production. This is where I'm hoping that the sleeve will kick in to make it different this time.
