eight weeks post op / 1 fill/ 2nd fill scheduled

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! My name is Kirstin. I live in Richmond, Va. and I am 8 weeks post op. I had my surgery 03/30/06 and I have lost since then 16 lbs. I had my first fill 05/12/06 and I am scheduled for my second fill 06/09/06. I am not losing anymore weight and I am at a complete standstill. I am having a lot of problems.

1) Excercising.... I am a single mom who works full time, I am exhausted by the time I get home. I do try to get in about 45-60 minutes during my lunch hour, but it's not high impact.

2) Waiting to drink an hour after a meal. I can usually do it, but morning time is more difficult.

3) My portion sizes.... I think I am grazing.

Any other people in my boat????

:think

hi iwas banded on apr 29/06 and I have lost 12 lbs very fast the first 2 weeks but I have really slowed, I can eat about anything like salads Soups fish, I haven't tried chicken or beef and no Pasta yet, but I am hungry all the time, I have to fight not to eat, I am a grazer too, but I am trying not to be, Protein I think is the key to the hunger, and I also have no trouble drinking when eating never have mostly Water some flavored waters, you may not have any trouble drinking after 15 -20 minutes after eating, sometimes its discouraging when you see how much weight everyone else has lost but EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT, I have always been a slow loser! Hang in there it will be worth it, I love the Atkins Protein Drinks they are filling and have lots of protein!

Hello Kristin, you are doing well and typical. Many folks don't lose until they fill restriction through their fills. Eventually, you will feel it and have no choice but to limit intake. I also use, fitday.com to log in my calories and activies (free). This helps me know approx. what I am eating for calories/nutrition. Try this for a day or so and see where you are at.

I don't wait an hour after meals. I wait 30 minutes, as that is what my surgeon has recommended. It seems that doctors all have different rules. I try to follow as best as I can, but I am not perfect....that's why I had the band installed.

Anyway, good luck. The band restriction is kinda fickle at times. Give yourself time.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Shawn

I had a plateau early on too....what I did (not by Dr. rules, but by what I had learned as a little trick in WW) is cut back on all carbs and ate alot of lean protein..chicken, tuna, eggs and cheese for about 2 days and didn't have any breads, crackers(the yummy stuff) and it was like it kinda jump started my metabolism again. I think my body truly thought it was being starved because I am such a carb addict and I have really had to retrain myself on that one. Even lean cuisine's have high carbs sometimes, even though low cal. Just try it for a few days and see if it helps...I mean I did have a few carbs, but very, very little. Also, instead of my daily regular Vitamin, I switched to these stupid, cheap pills I grabbed at the dollar store because I was out and they didn't have what I needed, so I figured for a buck I could just have some spare Vitamins laying around...but ironically since I've taken these I have been feeling better and actually lose a pound every couple of days. Not so stupid after all!!! They are called "Daily Diet Support" and I found them at The Dollar General. Just letting you know what worked for this sloth--my metabolism is the slower than Christmas and I am not, repeat NOT active at all because I am an elementary school teacher and I don't even want to move once school is out!!! Good luck, keep us posted!!

I have a question. Your message says that it has been over a year ago since you got your band and one fill. Why haven't you gotten anymore?

Was there a problem?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
