Scared that I can eat too much

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm 3 weeks post-op and I've healed pretty fast. At this point I can drink almost 100% the way I did before surgery. I don't have any hunger (just head hunger sometimes), and sometimes I forget that I even had major surgery just 3 weeks ago because I feel so good.

While I'm happy that I can drink normally, I'm a little worried about the amount of food I can eat at one sitting. I can eat a 4 ounces of mashed potatoes or yogurt in about 15 min (I'm cutting those foods out though, because they are too high in carbs) and 2 ounces of chicken salad or refried Beans in about 5-10 minutes. I've been reading posts on here where people further out than me are eating 2 ounces in an hour. I limit myself to these quantities, but in all honesty, I could probably eat a couple more ounces of these foods at one sitting.

Is it just because I'm on mushy foods that I can eat more/faster, or is this the normal amount/way to feel when eating mushies? My surgeon used a size 32 on me, and he told me my sleeve was "nice and small" but I really feel like I'm eating more than I should be.

thanks

I would say that the amount you're eating is definitely the kinds of food you've been eating. Everyone here will tell you they can eat more soft foods than dense Protein. But once you get to eating say a solid chicken breast, I don't think you will be able to eat more than an oz. or two at first. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. There were some days when I was earlier out that I felt like I could have eaten more than the 2 oz. my dietitian told me to eat. Other days, I would struggle to fit in the whole 2 oz. at a meal! So no worries! As long as you're eating the right things, following your dr.'s orders, you can't wrong. Hope that helped. :thumbup1:

I am 5 weeks out and just started eating "solid" food. I thought just like you! but now I know that I cannot eat very much of a solid food. For Breakfast I made eggs with pieces of low fat sausage I was not able to eat it all only about 1/2 (which would be one egg one sausage link)Lunch I had chicken I got at Trader Joes It is BBQ white meat (not very much sauce-just shredded chicken)I could eat less than 1/4 cup. Last night I had panko cod and was only able to eat 1 1/2 small filets (I got them @ costco) Really trying to eat fish. This was my first "3 meal day" so don't worry!!! I am loving this sleeve!!!!!!

When are you able to eat solids? I think once you do you will be pleasantly surprised! let us know...

I too would have to say that it's the type of foods you're eating. I could eat more on the pureed stage than I can on the soft food stage. I definitely wouldn't worry about it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
