I keep reading post and you all are so helpful. I feel like this is all I think about and I keep wanting to know as much as I can. What additional questions should I be asking at my pre-op visit (4/28). I 've asked questions at my initial visit and have been reading like crazy, but just want your thoughts.

I wanted to know what type of aftercare I'd have access to. Like, I have nut and psych access at any time without issue. This was vital for me. I have had to call on our nut quite a bit because I needed help especially within the last 3 months.

If I needed access to a psych, I wanted it without issue as well. This is a mental journey as well, and some need the additional support.

Is there a support group? Luckily, our psych runs out support group. I haven't attended any of the meetings. Mainly because it's a convenience thing for me. The meeting place is about 40 minutes from my house, it's around dinner time for my family, and it's on a weeknight. By the time the meeting ends, and I drive home, I would not be able to have dinner, down time, reading time with my son. Plus, I hated Weight Watchers meetings so I've never been drawn to support groups. But, they may help during your journey.

I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow and I don't really any questions in mind because they've pretty well prepared me at the nutritional class I had to attend last week.

They also gave me a list of things I have to bring with me to the hospital and how to prepare the day before.

Example: I have to buy this Hibiclens soap and shower with it the night before surgery and the next morning before going to the hospital.

They told I'd be given an incentive spirometer at my pre-op appointment and that I needed to practice breathing with it 4x/day up until surgery and afterwards as well. They told me to make sure I bring it with me to the hospital.

She told me what kind of Vitamins to have on hand and what kind of scripts they would give me at my pre-op appointment.

They told me what to expect when I get to the hospital, what to expect when I come out of surgery and that first day and night in the hospital, etc.

She told me what they'd give me in the hospital medicine wise and what it is used for.

I'm guessing I'll probably come up with some questions while there but I haven't been able to come up with any so far!

Thanks to both of you. I do have to attend a pre-op class and I'm sure they will answer my questions. But my pre-op is the same day as the class and before it, so I wasn't sure. I think I might just be driving myself crazy.

goodlife - what is your surgery date?

I don't have one yet...I'm hoping I will find out tomorrow. They told me it's usually between 7 and 10 days after the pre-op so I'm hoping for either the 28th, 29th, or 30th.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
