I watched some videos on utube on the Sleeve procedure, how can they be so precise, it all looks the same to me, how do they know what they are cutting on??? Dr. Aceves is my surgeon. One video I watched that is not from Dr. Aceves showed clamps on top of staples and then an epoxy type membrane on top of that.

I wish I had not watched the videos now!!! Anyone have info on Dr. Aceves' techniques?

i had a completely different effect from watching the videos. I thought it was really cool and clean. However you shouldn't frighten yourself with these things. Just trust your surgeon. Even if someone explained this to you in laymen's terms if would make no difference. That's why we're not surgeons.

If you had to watch how to fly a plane you might be frightened but you would trust your pilot to get you there. Trust and a good surgeon. Don't worry.

I can't attest to Dr. Aceves techniques. I had my band to sleeve revision with him as week ago today. I can only tell you that I had and am having a positive expereince so far. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos were competent and compassionate. Please do your research and get all your quesitons answered before taking this step....I certainly wish you good luck!

I tend to agree with seaview. Although I watch lots of medical shows and operations on tv, when it gets close in time to me a having a specific procedure, I don't want to see it performed anymore. Those youtube videos are way more in your face than watching it on tv, so I know I can't handle that. But, I don't have any problem reading about it and continuing my research right up until the big day.

Just say no to the graphic videos and stick to the video blogs by WLS patients.

Thanks to all for your responses! Really helps calm my fears! I am an Engineer and have never liked medical "things" so I need to just not focus on that part of it.... I have read so much about this surgeon and talked with a few patients that are so satisfied, I am confident in my choice.

Citygal, congrats!!! Keep me posted on your progress! My surgery is May 10th!

I have to agree with seaview--I was totally comforted by how "simple" the surgery is, and how precise and NOT messy at all. No complex detaching and reattaching, just staple, staple, staple, done. COOL.

Amazing what you think about 3 weeks prior to this surgery!!! Ok, question???

If you cannot drink the Water in Mexico, what do the surgeons was their hands with? The same Water that you cannot drink? Might seem trivial and I am hoping someone has a great answer for me!

Thanks!

You must be kidding! Mexico is a huge country with potable Water. The hospital is a sterile environment. Your surgeon doesn't wash his hands in a stream outside! He scrubs in with filtered water and antimicrobial soap. The only places in Mexico where people get into trouble is in places where the water isn't filtered. Or when they swim in water with sewage in it. Which can happen in the States as well. Have you ever been to Mexico? It is a lovely country and I can assure you that your surgeon will be sterile. No actually, I am not kidding. I am not sure how to take your tone but I will choose to take it lightheartedly.

I have been to Mexico 5 times since 2001, once just across the border in Texas and 4 times in areas of the Western Caribbean. It is a lovely country, I agree! I have also been to Jordan twice, another third world country. In all cases I was told never to drink the Water and everywhere you went, you were given bottled water.

I have spoken with other patients of Dr. Aceves and they were told not to drink the water by Nina. I trust she knows what she is talking about.

Did I think the surgeon was washing his hands out back? No. Do I know that water can be run through a filtration system. Yes.

Please understand that this forum is supposed to be a place for folks to feel comfortable coming here to research their options and get the information they need. No question is ever a dumb one, if it is a question in your mind then you should ask it! This is about my health and my safety, so although to some my question might seem quite ridiculous, if that is what I need to ask in order to have a clear mind going into this life changing event, I will ask it!

Angie, best wishes to you with your surgery. From what I can glean off this message board as well as on OH, you have selected a top surgeon who is very experienced and cautious. I hope you will continue to keep us informed and without reservation ask questions! -Lis

I totally understand and I apologize for my reply. It was not thought out and I get that it was not very compassionate. Yes any questions is OK you're right.

I am sure that other patients who have been to Mexico can reassure you.

Again my apologies. Seaview

I was worried that I would not have enough to eat and starve to death..and still ...oddly need reassurance on that one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
