HI Everyone!!

Thanks for thinking of me. I am home and on the mend. Today I went outside (Yahoo!! It is Michigan here----close to the 60's and I saw the sun!!) for a walk. The surgery went as expected. I can't tell you how comforting it was having read this site for the past few months and knowing what to expect. I have not had severe gas pains---thank God!---but have had to run to the bathroom for liquid bm----yuck!! However, had read about both of these on this site and was prepared (as prepared as a person can be)

Troy Beaumont was awsome---staff was right there whenever I needed another cup of crushed ice. My mouth was so dry and my mom---bless her----just kept having a conversation with me and my tongue felt like it was a big cotton ball.

Anyway, I am feeling better every hour. The liquid diet is not so bad. I had cream of chicken Soup for lunch and part of an Arby's jamoca shake for dinner. The nutritionist said that during the liquid phase, this would be okay. So far, I only miss my morning java fix---looking forward to getting that back.

Anyway, thanks for all the support and I am so happy to be in bandland!!

Greta

Gretat,

Congrats on your banding! I know you are excited. Take it easy, don't do too much too soon like me.

Sending thoughts for a speedy recovery, and a lifetime of discovery.

Thanks, Carolyn, Vera, Audrey and Shelia,

It is so comforting having all of you there to cheer me on!!

3 days post-op and feeling more energy today. Had a yougart smoothie for breakfast---made the tummy stop rumbling.

A question for all you experienced bandsters: When will I know the difference of noise rumbling or hunger rumbling? So far, I really can't tell.

hmmmm that's a good question!

I'm only 7 months out so i'm not too experienced! lol But... I find that keeping the fluids up, stops the gurgling in my lower stomach...

It all settles down after a few weeks post op & the gurgling tends to calm down.... except when you eat... then it's like a gurgling in the back of your throat! Can get a little embarassing when you are talking to people ! lol :nervous

How are your wounds/stitches etc? you still feeling well?

Audrey x

Hi!

4 days after surgery. Went to the Detroit Zoo today and walked with my family. It felt great! I was pretty tired after the 2 1/2 hours we were there, but tired in a good way. When the Dr. says walk, walk, walk, I think it makes sense. Good thing I had my surgery in the spring!!

As far as my incision sites---they are looking black and dark blue---the tape is still on and will be taken off next Weds. at my 1st post-op appointment with Dr. Deol. (If it doesn't fall off by itself first!) I was able to shower on Weds.---had surgery on Mon. It felt wonderful. I'm not too worried about scarring on my tummy---not planning on entering any bikini contests in the near future!!

Thanks for all your responses and encouragment!!!

Leo,

Thanks for the idea. The incisions by my belly button and the one directly above it are starting to itch and putting on the antibiotic cream helped ease it. Just 3 more days until I go for my post-op with Dr. Deol. Hope she says I can have something besides liquid---I am starting to feel hungry!!

:cry

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
