I need some help with a 400 calorie daily intake

Recommended Posts

Concentrate on getting in 60 gms of Protein in. Fluids will not fill you up for more than 2 hrs, at least that is about it for me, maybe an hour and a half. When I started the denser Proteins like chicken or beef, I am full for a lot longer (3 hrs). Be sure not to drink right after eating your meal or it won't stay in your stomach as long. I've seen anywhere from 30 to 90 min suggested before drinking anything. I've not had any problem eating anything. I can eat toast or crackers but try to limit them to once a day with tuna salad or some kind of protein.

Sorry about your children...looks like you have a lot to contend with at this time. I hope that they recover quickly.

I just want to mention that my boughie is a 40...and I was so relieved when my surgeon told me! I'm 7 months out now and my restriction is still (by comparison to pre-surgery), huge. I can not eat much more than around 4oz of dense Protein, like chicken, or steak, even cheese, in one sitting. I am able to get in a bit more if it's a yogurt or very soft/mushie type food. It still freaks me out a little.:confused1:

Hey LAN2k, mine was a 40 too. Gues that makes us almost related :thumbup1:

I really like vegetarian Breakfast meats. Here they're called Morningstar Farms. They have sausage patties and links. They really fill me up and are very low in calories. I actually like bacon too - well cooked there's not much fat and two pieces only has 80 calories. And I've always loved beef Jerky.

In general, I think that food helps fill you up more than Protein drinks. I only do those if I need the extra Protein. But protein of any kind satisfies me and fills me up for several hours (talking from my band days, I'm still on liquids with my sleeve).

You are doing great !! I also feel that we need to listen to our health professionals as to what they feel is best for us. If he told you 400-600 a day (hopefully he also told you to monitor your Protein count to make sure he has a high healthy level for you) then that is what you should do.

My Dr. told me to not go over 600 calories a day while I'm losing. I have no idea what he will have me on after I've reached goal, but for now I trust him and his advice. That's why I chose him.

I trust that you felt comfortable with your surgeon of choice, or you would not have allowed him to perform such a serious surgery on you.

We all have our advice...and I love this sight...but I also trust my surgeon. You have to trust your own instincts...

Keep up the good work. We all need each other to keep us going in the right direction...GOOD HEALTHY WEIGHTS

I am currently eating around 1200 calories a day. I do an extremely low net-carb though and I credit that with helping me surpass my goal in only 7 months! I love my low-carb Protein Bars, especially Atkins. I do NOT eat any bread or Pasta. Only a spoon of potatoes now and then and maybe a stolen cookie once in a while...LOL! I recently started making cloud bread to eat burgers or tuna or pizza on. Very good and less than 1 carb!!!

I use MyPlate too! I love it. It allows me to track EVERYTHING! I know when I have too much or not enough (sounds funny to say that...LOL). It is so nice to see what everything actually is as I am eating it, not 50 pounds later!

I'll tell you some of my 'regular' staples in my diet. I have a scrambled egg, and some times mix in some grated 2% cheddar cheese. I do this three or four days a week. If I'm feeling lazy, I'll eat a half cup of 1% cottage cheese, that is a quick 12 or 13 grams of protein! Occasionally I'll have a half of a low fat English muffin with 2% cheese melted on it. For lunch I might have something left over from the night before or I'll have 2 oz of tuna made with a little light mayo or 2 oz of lean sliced roast beef from the deli. I haven't had ham or turkey yet, but they'd be just as good. 2 oz is all I can do though. When I have tuna I will eat two or three Water Crackers, they give me that cruch that I like (i cut chips out of my diet months before I had surgery) - they have practically NO fat, calories and I am pretty sure NO saturated fat. Once in a while I will steam 2 oz of frozen shrimp which is good for Protein....protein is always my goal!!! For dinner I make a meat, grill steak, or I'll do something with chicken or we'll grill shrimp. I'll make round steak in 98% fat free cream of mushroom Soup (makes great brown gravy). I can eat 2 oz of meat most of the time. We buy grass-fed bison because it is so lean. Seafood is the easiest for me to eat. I love Cod, blackened, just so nothing is over cooked. I eat about a TB of veggies and if we have mashed or baked potatoes, about a TB of that. Maybe about the same of cottage cheese and that's it! I'm never really hungry but can tell when my tummy is empty. I keep an on line log and my calories range from 475 - 650, and that includes my Protein 'bullet'. I start and end each day with 8 oz of skim milk. I don't count my Calcium calories, but they're another 80. I just can't bring myself to count 'meds' as calories! =) I hope this helps!!! Good luck!!!

Hi everyone! I have been reading a lot of posts and have decided that I am eating far too many calories. Can someone give me ideas of what I can eat to stick to between 400 and 600 calories per day? I am an Aussie so there may be some things that I don't know about like refried Beans?? and grits?? Also my Protein shake has 208 calories. Does this sound about right? Thanks in advasnce for all of your help. I really couldn't do this without you all

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
