I just got my surgery date yesterday and I am scheduled for May 13th. I'm guessing it is normal to excited and nervous at the same time. I feel like I have an appt with my new life. How did you all feel and how did you prepare mentally? I am currently in counseling so that will help....but I always love your suggestions!

Congratulations on your date. VERY exciting.

I prepared by reading everything I could & being on this forum constantly. LOL. The counseling will be good. Have you met with a nutritionist yet? They will give you loads of information to read and study. I also did a lot of shopping so that I had plenty of "legal" foods on hand for when I got home. One word of advice - try to find some Protein Shakes that you like, but don't overstock on them. A lot of them will just not taste the same after surgery. Some that I thought were ok prior, just turned my stomach afterward - bad gag reflex. There are several threads about sample packets - that would be a good place to start.

If you are addicted to soda, this would be a good time to wean off the caffeine. You don't want those caffeine withdrawal headaches in conjunction with surgery healing.

Best of luck. Can't wait to hear how your journey goes.

I just scheduled my surgery for May 10th with Dr. Aceves!!! Now I am trying to get flights booked, etc. Good advice on the sodas, that is one thing that KEEPS me from eating throughout the day is diet soda but I know I need to give it up.

Nina sent me a message this morning about the deposit. I know I am just supposed to send it the mail. I asked if I needed to wait to book flights until I hear that they have gotten it so that I know for sure I have the date but she said to go ahead and book the flight. This makes me nervous, what if they get someone else booked in my place before receiving my check?

Anyone else have this experience?

Thanks!

Congradulations everybody on the date.

It is so very exciting and terrifying at the same time. I, like minime use this board to help me cope. I am on here constantly getting info and getting involved in peoples experiences. It helps give me something to focus on and feeds my need to know about the process.

I think I have worked through most of the terror part. Still a little nervous but my doctor and the people on this forum have done a lot to help "normalize" the experience.

I spend a lot of time trying to get centered. Sometimes I get into the majic bullet thinking and I have to remind myself that I am in for a big let down if I think all my problems will dissapear because the weight is gone. It will help.... but I have to be realistic.

Congrats on the dates!!!!

Like about everyone else, I cruised the boards like crazy! I think being obsessed with gaining information was definitely a good thing! Sometimes I was nervous sometimes excited and sometimes kind of shocked that it was really happening. I will say that once I got to Kansas 3 days before surgery I was strangely calm. I always pictured myself being a nervous wreck and shaking the day of surgery, but I didn't AT ALL. I had done the research so I was confident. Hope you enjoy as fantastic of an experience as I did. Congratulations.

Thanks. It's nice to know I'm on the right track. Hopefully, I'll get the calmness you did. Right now I'm still back and forth with emotions, but doing all the steps and putting one foot in front of the other.

This forum is the best thing for my journey it. I am for days out and my biggest problem is I failed to realize I was addicted to food I was a birth day party with fried chicken it made me realize I hd a problem the sleeve will help me physically but the emotional process is still an ongoing thing. However some people have stated this will affect my marriage I said it wouldn't but that is not true I love my wife so much and did not realize how great she is her support through my journey I have fell in love with her all over again

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
