My doctor uses a whey Protein powder that is amazingly good tasting. It may be expensive compared to stuff you can get at the grocery store or GNC, but for me, it's well worth it. Besides, I'll be saving tons of money on the usual food I won't be eating.

It's called "Peak Nutrition" and it is a bioengineered ion-exchange whey Protein. Lactose free whey. They claim it is 68% better than egg white and 97% better than soy. You can order it online I think although I get mine from the doc. Their address is: Peak Nutrition, Inc., 1877 Midland St., P.O. Box 87, Syracuse, NE 68446.

To get a good jolt of protein I mix chocolate with skim milk and it is better than the usual chocolate milk drink mix. But they have different flavors and vanilla can be mixed with lots of flavors to make something you like.

Please let me know if you try it. I'd love to get someone else's take on it.

My only problem was that I didn't mind the muscle milk light pre-op, and even a couple of others. But, once the sleeve revision was done, I hurled or gagged with the taste on so many protein drinks/mixes.

What is it sweetened with? I think the Aspartame is what really turned my stomach, well that, and the texture of most just were not good for me.

I'm not sure what Peak Nutrition is sweetened with. On the ingredients list it only says, natural sweeteners.

I spoke with the dietician today and she told me that I can't use skim milk, at least for a while because it has sugar in it. I don't know how the natural sugar in milk is different from the natural sweetener that is in the Peak Nutrition, but that's what she said.

I don't know if at this point you want to even mess with ordering it, but honestly it is the very best tasting nutritional supplement I've ever tasted. I've used it for Breakfast lots of times long after I got the band because it is so good. I only use the chocolate now although when I first got the band I bought vanilla and mixed it with various other things for a different taste. I always come back to choclolate.

STCYT,

I am doing ok. Thanks so much for asking. I am feeling a bit better just getting back into the routine of things but not much has changed with my tummy. I still am having pains with eating and drinking but I think it is starting to let up. I am having a horrible time getting enough Fluid and Protein. I have pretty much given up on Protein drinks for now and just try and eat greek yogurt that has 15 grams Protein per cup because it goes down easier. Other than that sugar free pudding and hot tea has been my savoir.

I also know that this is way too much information but since I have seen on many other post that no one else seems to have a problem talking about these things so I am going to go for it. So I have read how so many people are constipated in the first few months and I have had the exact opposite of this problem if you get my drift. It has been awful and I just wanted to know if anyone else felt this way or if I am just different?

Other than all of that I am ok I guess. I wish things were easier but I am getting by. I am definitely at least in better spirits than when I first posted and that is probably half the battle really. I know it will get easier I just wish it would be soon!

I read somewhere that the reason for that is because you're not eating solids and you're drinking so much Water, but I don't know if that's true.

How long are you having to be on liquids or mushies? I found out today that I'm only on Clear Liquids for a few days and then just regular liquids for a few days and then mushies. By day 14 I'm supposed to be on regular food.

I'm so glad to hear you are feeling somewhat better. Right now, it'll be liquids in, liquids out. Once you get to mushies, it will get a little better.

I bought baby wipes to help with the sensitive hiney post-op. I hated it, and couldn't use regular tissue.

Some people find taking an additional probiotic helps to some degree.

I'm not in a position to order any just because I get all the Protein I need from food sources. But, a lot of people can't tolerate aspartame/sucralose sweetened Protein stuff. I just wanted to find out so if someone wanted info I could direct them to your post. You may want to post the Peak information in the Food/Diet/Nutrition forum under the thread on where to order protein supplements.

I was just asking for informational purposes.

Thanks for the tips.

Sorry it has been a whole week since my surgery and I haven't really checked in. It really stinks for me to say but this was harder than I thought it would be. I guess I didn't expect to react so badly to the surgery. I still get stomach spasms every time something enters my mouth. I am not getting down any Protein and definitely not enough fluids. I am trying but it is easier to just not eat or drink anything. The past few days I have been pretty depressed. It seems to be a combination of not being able to do the right things post-op and not really feeling like myself. I don't want to say I regret it yet because I don't think I am there yet but I am starting to feel like I want my stomach back so I can eat something again. I am going back to work tomorrow so I hope being busy will keep my mind off things. Anyway, thanks for listening. I am sure I will get out of this funk eventually.

Hi, I can totally relate with your feelings. . in the beginning I really hated my sleeve and really wished i hadn't done it. . . but you know after my check up after 1 1/2 weeks and i noticed i lost 32 lbs i thought "ok not too bad" and kept doing what the doctor wanted. . . . eating according to the menu given me. . . then after 7 weeks i went to the doctor again for a weigh in and saw a 53 lb loss. . . was i ever happy. . . i'm now 14 - 15 weeks out and there are days i still don't like this sleeve, but the way clothes fit now and how i look and get compliments beat being obese and unhappy. . .I don't know if i'd do it again, maybe, but i don't know. . . but i'll tell you the results are great. . . it'll get better that i can say confidently but it's how you are going to accept it that is hard to say. . . keep your chin up and just think how great you'll look in the end. . . I wish you all the luck and know that we are all here for you during this time of transition. . . We've been there and will help you ok? :tongue_smilie:

Well I'm really dreading the nausea and stomach spasms but I'm mostly worried about the depression and feelings of having made a mistake.

I can tell you this, I am grateful for your posts and honest feelings. It will help a lot when I go through it. I won't feel like the lone ranger and I'll know I can come here and do some venting.

Keep on doing well and if others are the norm, in 6 months you will be very glad you had the surgery and you'll be totally involved in the new you!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
